Boat trips can be taken from Brancaster Staithe, bound for the RSPB and Nature Reserve Sanctuary of Scolt Head Island, while further along the coast at Blakeney Point trips can be taken to observe the basking seal colonies. Hunstanton is 6 miles, for a traditional day by the seaside; activities here include a cliff-top golf course, a lighthouse, the popular Sea Life Centre and fun fair, an indoor heated swimming-pool and all manner of water sports. Also well worth a visit is Wells-next-the-Sea (8 miles); this working fishing harbour is particularly famous for its fresh seafood and many of the pubs and restaurants have the catch of the day on their menus. A drive out into the countryside can take in many stately homes and gardens, including Holkham Hall, Houghton Hall and the Royal Sandringham Estate, open to the public when the Royal Family is not in residence.
