Overview

Turtle View is a luxury apartment in an exceptional location with stunning unobstructed views over Kalkan, its islands and bay. It is part of the old Eagles Nest Hotel which has now been converted into beautiful apartments. It is situated directly above the well known Villa Mahal boutique hotel with steps taking you down to the waters edge. Here you can enjoy Villa Mahal's beach club facilities, restaurants or take the water taxi directly across to Kalkan.
The fully air conditioned apartment has been built to a very high specification. It is tastefully furnished throughout and includes all of the facilities you would expect from a luxury property.
The large main bedroom, with king size bed and en-suite shower and toilet, boasts its own private sun terrace with sea views. The second bedroom is a spacious twin room, again with sea views. The contemporary kitchen features granite worktops and is exceptionally well equipped. The open plan lounge and dining area provides a spacious seating area complete with LCD TV, satellite & DVD. Wireless internet access is also available.
The huge terrace with surround panorama (no roof top views here) is west facing and enjoys the sun from early morning to sunset. It is partially covered to allow shade from the midday sun. Here you can dine or simply relax in your own private jaccuzi. There is nothing more relaxing than sitting with a glass of wine and listening to the put, put of the small boats, seeing the gulets returning to the harbour and then having dinner as the sun sets over the bay and the Kalkan lights begin to twinkle as the dusk falls. All very, very romantic.

Location & area

Kalkan is a beautiful unspoilt Mediterranean style village set along Turkey's Lycian coast. There is an absence of mass tourism so it remains a charming, idyllic retreat, perfect for those looking for a relaxing, stress free holiday. The town has a beautiful backdrop of the Taurus Mountains and has a quaint historic harbor famous for its fresh fish. There are narrow streets that twist down to the harbour lined with old whitewashed villas with shuttered windows. Villas and apartments with scenic sea views nestle in the mountainside above Kalkan’s traditional whitewashed, balconied houses. This charming old town is still a fishing village at heart as restrictions on new development mean that nightlife is suitably low-key. Adjacent to the harbour is a gently shelving beach.

Famous for its restaurants, in Kalkan there are over 150 to choose from! There are the fabulous roof top terraces where you can watch the sun going down whilst eating fresh fish or local turkish cuisine or why not sit at the restaurants by the bustling harbour and watch the boats drift in and out. There are also a couple of low key bars where you can enjoy a glass of wine or an Efes (local beer) after your meal.

Upmarket shops and bars in the centre are flanked by beautiful Greek and Ottoman architecture give the town an air of grace and affluence.

There is plenty to explore during the day, a must is a visit to the local market on a Thursday to get some bargains or you could browse the shops and buy a handcrafted rug or a piece of unusual pottery. There is also a selection of specialty shops selling jewellery, crafts and clothes.

For the more active why not go on a Gullet trip and explore the nearby islands or visit the local dive centre. Unspoilt villages and historic sites (Xanthos, Letoon, Tlos) are just a short drive away. The towns of Kas and Fethiye are a must to visit as is the Saklikent gorge. Dolmus (buses) run there on a regular basis or it is very easy to hire a car locally.

Transport links are good. It’s just under a two hour journey on the excellent coastal highway to Dalaman Airport, which lies 150km south-east. Antalya is a three and a half hour ride over the mountains as an alternative to the coastal route. Both routes have breath taking scenery. With popular beaches at Patara (20mins) and Kaputas (10mins) also within easy reach and water sports aplenty, Kalkan is a highly popular and attractive destination for anyone looking for a truly wonderful holiday.

The UK press regularly feature Kalkan as the jewel in the crown of Turkey’s beautiful south western coastline. Here is a taste of what they have to say…

The Guardian

“Kalkan is like the Italian Riviera minus the poseurs. A few miles away is Patara beach, a spectacular 18km stretch of golden sand consistently voted one of the best beaches in the world. At night, Kalkan is prettier still - candle-lit roof-terrace restaurants look out across the glowing white dome of the mosque and the tiny harbour full of gulets. Kalkan is a little oasis of sophistication.”

Evening Standard

“Kalkan is a bougainvillea-covered harbour village only 20 minutes’ drive from Patara with cobbled, winding streets, chic boutiques and seafood restaurants.”

The Sunday Times

“Turkey's Lycian coast has turquoise seas, white-sand beaches and spectacular Roman ruins.Kalkan is the most attractive town on the southwest coast. Its narrow, sloping alleyways, filled with elegant shops and bars, lead down to the harbour, where you’ll find good fish restaurants and regular boat trips to nearby Kaputas Beach. Patara is just a 20-minute drive away.”

The Daily Telegraph

“This Lycian coastline is truly spectacular. Rugged cliffs of pine forests plunge into turquoise sea. Between them are small bays of sand and shingle accessible only by boat. Kalkan, with its pretty harbour setting, has retained much of its character.”

Sunday Times Travel Magazine

“The road from Antalya along the coast past Finike and Kas to Kalkan has to be one of the most beautiful & uncluttered in the world. Kalkan is a sweetly sited harbour, in a natural bay.”

Woman

“As promised in the brochure, Kalkan is authentic, undiscovered Turkey – a buzzing little market village which really welcomes tourists. We found the local people generous, charming and honest. Kalkan has shops and restaurants and a village feel and comes alive at night. We ate local food - it seems as if there are 600 ways to cook an aubergine and the fish was so fresh it melted in the mouth.”
