Location & area
The historic town of Kalkan is an enchanting place and one of the most beautiful locations along Turkey 's gorgeous Lycian Coast. Kalkan is an old fishing town, famous for its white-washed houses descending to the sea and its brightly colored bougainvilleas.
With much of the surrounding land still undeveloped and with many nearby remains of ancient civilizations, Kalkan (kahl-KAHN) is the ideal resort for those who want calm and relaxation, enjoy the natural beauty of the cleanest seashores, of rough mountains covered with pine forests.
It is also perfect for those who want to explore the remains of the cities of ancient Lycia, "The Land of Light", the first known federation in history, between modern day Fethiye and Antalya.
Kalkan has typical Mediterranean climate with hot dry summers and warm wet winters. The sea water temperature rarely drops below 16°C, thus enabling swimmers 9 months of bathing season. The day-time maximum temperature during summer is 35-40°C and 14-16°C during winter. Kalkan typically has low humidity and is preferred by locals and visitors alike for its health-giving benefits.
There is now over 100 restaurants in "Old Kalkan". Travel agencies, restaurants, bars, one or two nightclubs, hotels, apartments and private villas are all present. Celebrities such as Princess Diana, Robbie Williams, Sting, Anna Friel, Kelsey Grammer have visited Kalkan.
