About the Resort

Dalyan is a picturesque village situated on the estuary of the river Dalyan between the Mediterranean Sea and the fresh water lake of Koygeciz. Dalyan offers a perfect combination of sea, beach, lake and river, nestled in a mountain landscape, surrounded by cotton fields, pine trees and abundant citrus groves.
The village is situated on the Dalyan River in the heart of the delta between the lake and the Mediterranean. This delta forms a unique system of small channels surrounded by reed beds. A voyage through this labyrinth is both romantic and mysterious.

The word Dalyan literally means "fish trap" and originates from many the fisheries that were established here in the 19th Century. With its mixture of salt water and fresh lake water, it is a very attractive environment for flora and fauna and the may species of wildlife which exist peacefully here.

Dividing the sea from the delta is the Iztuzu sandbar stretching for 7 km east from the mouth of the estuary. This is a breathtaking stretch of beach which is thoroughly unspoilt by any modern developments. Throughout the ages the Loggerhead Turtle has laid her eggs here. This species, which is now protected, can happily continue to breed here as Dalyan and Iztuzu is set within a natural conservation area and is declared by the Turkish Tourist authorities as being an area of outstanding natural beauty.

At the lake you will find several natural spas. The hot springs with a temperature of 40' C were famous in Roman times for their healing properties. The numerous minerals were especially recognised as being beneficial for muscular problems.
The natural mud baths are also famous for their health giving properties, said to be particularly beneficial in aiding skin complaints and rheumatism.

On the banks of the Dalyan river you will find the remains of the ancient city of Caunos with its 2300 years old Lycian rock tombs. The civilisation is dated back to 3000 years BC. The remains comprise of a castle, a Roman theatre, an agora, a bathhouse and a Byzantine church. The imposing and dramatic rock tombs, carved as temples, are the graveyards of the last kings of Caunos.

Dalyan itself is an authentic fishing village with beautiful views across the mountains. In the cosy harbour there are many fishing boats which now operate as river taxis.

There are strict building regulations in Dalyan due to it's conservation status and as such the village has not been overtaken by mass tourism. In the summer months the village has a lively feel to it due to the number of visiting tourists and daily excursions to Dalyan from other areas. There is always a real Turkish atmosphere here as there is an established thriving Turkish community which existed long before the tourists arrived !

The centre of the village is situated around the mosque. Here you will find numerous shops varying from carpet shops to jewellery and gift shops selling Turkish delight and spices.

There are many restaurants in the centre and along the riverside where you can sit back and relax and enjoy the famous Turkish cuisine. The many bars vary from Turkish coffee houses to jazz- and blues bars.

Dalyan is an excellent base for several daily tours. By boat you can go to the sunken city of Kekova and enjoy the 12- Island tour. Also you can walk through the Saklikent canyon, pay Pamukkale (meaning cotton like) a visit with its famous salt terraces or go shopping in Marmaris and Fethiye.

Breathtaking landscape, unspoilt natural beauty and historic value - Dalyan is a paradise on earth.
