Location & area
The village of Torgon is part of the Portes du Soleil ski region. You can fly to Geneva airport (which is on the border of France and Switzerland) with many budget airlines, including easyJet.
Geneva airport is a rental location for cheap car hire company easyCar - see You can then drive from the airport along the lake (north or south side, as you wish) until you get to Aigle, the town nearest Torgon. It's uphill from there for about 15km to the beautiful village of Torgon - prepare for your breath to be taken away by the unfolding views as you head upwards!
Alternatively, you could use the excellent Swiss Transfer Ticket (see which will enable you to take a train direct from Geneva airport to Aigle, and then catch the marvellous red-and-yellow Postbus up the mountain to Torgon. The Postbus is a Swiss institution, and a lifeline to more remote villages - it carries the post (as you might guess) as well as passengers and occasionally more unusual cargo (we have seen a sheep, but only once...!).

Amenities & services
We have recently redecorated our apartment so it is very fresh and clean. The large balconies make the apartment very light and airy, and the excellent heating system keeps you toasty warm in winter. Upstairs is a large double bedroom, and in the lounge there is a double sofabed and a single sofabed. The main bathroom (complete with bath, shower and bidet) is upstairs, with an additional loo and handbasin downstairs. There is plenty of storage space in the apartment, including two wardrobes and a large understair cupboard. The apartment does not have its own washing machine, but the Swiss system in apartment buildings is to have instead a communal laundry room with coin-operated washers and dryers - very efficient and cheap. You will be supplied with a key to this laundry room (the "buanderie"). Please note that your rental includes linen and towels for however many people are in your group, as well as pre- and post-stay cleaning. And if you want Internet access, there is a terminal for hire in the building next door, or - if you have your own laptop - there is free wifi access in their lobby. Torgon village boasts an outdoor swimming pool and several tennis courts for summer use - small charges apply. There is a parking space reserved for you in the secure underground parking garage beneath the building. The apartment is reached by lift or stairs, and there is a dedicated ski locker in the entrance way to the building. Torgon is a mountain-top village that is part of the Portes du Soleil ski region - the largest in the world. It is in the canton of Valais, and overlooks Lac Leman (which we English call Lake Geneva). However, Torgon is not just a ski location - it is a fabulous year-round holiday destination. In the spring, the air is the freshest in the world and the mountain and valley come alive with new growth and colours. In the summer, the temperatures rise towards 30 degrees, and the long, sunny days are a joy - you can go on a paddle-steamer on the lake, or on one of the many trains in the region (such as the stunning Bernese Oberlander, or the delicious Chocolate Train, or the vertiginous rack-and-pinion trains), or just lounge by the mountain-top pool and drink in the view and peace. Torgon's nearest town of any size is Aigle, 15km away down in the valley. Here you will find supermarkets, the railway station, some super little restaurants and more. Just along the lake is the famous town of Montreux, with its world-class jazz festival in August - Freddie Mercury settled here, so it can't be bad (and there's a wonderful statue of him on the waterfront). Another famous resident of the region was Charlie Chaplin, who lived in the gorgeous town of Vevey - the weekly markets are perfect, and the annual wine festival positively irresistible. And it has a cinema that shows English-language films - and outdoor cinema in the summer. Between Montreux and Vevey is the spectacular Chateau de Chillon - a mediaeval castle right on the water's edge. And for real culture and all the amenities, you can head for Lausanne or even Geneva. Lausanne is a beautiful city, with a marvellous lakeside setting and some fantastic restaurants, concerts, churches, shops and more. There is always something happening in Lausanne, and it's usually free - such as organ recitals, or volleyball tournaments, or art exhibitions. One of the best-value things in the region is the combined boat/rail pass - you can buy a 3-, 5- or 7-day one and then zip everywhere on the paddle-steamers and trains. One of the best days out is a boat from Villeneuve (the nearest dock to Torgon) to Lausanne, lunch and a wander, and then the train back again.
