Overview
Built into the side of the mountain our 'El Ladero' (Redoubt) apartment offers breathtaking wraparound vistas of the Sierra Nevada mountains. Situated in the pretty, traditional village of Guejar Sierra 25 minutes from the ski resort at Pradollano, the apartment enjoys the best of both worlds. All the character of real Spain and great little Spanish restaurants, plus skiing within easy reach without hugely inflated resort prices. This place is a well kept secret - its where the Spanish themselves stay when they ski the Sierra Nevada. Historic Granada is also only 20 minutes away. The Sierra Nevada National Park also offers stunning walks & countryside activities (fishing, birdwatching, climbing, canoeing, canoning, cross country skiing paragliding etc). All of these begin literally on the doorstep. For an alternative outing, the fascinating troglodyte region around Guadix is also close at hand, & even the beaches of the Costa Tropical can be reached within 45 minutes.
** CAN ALSO BE RENTED WITH 1 BEDROOM (PLUS 1 SOFA/BED) APARTMENT NEXT DOOR. THE TWO CAN BE LINKED VIA AN INTERIOR COURTYARD IF REQUIRED.

Location & area
There is great winter skiing to be had in the Sierra Nevada (the venue for the 1996 world ski championship) and the views of Africa from the top are spectacular. At over 9000 ft (skiing from 3500 metres down to 2000 metres) it is one of the highest resorts in Europe An international ski school is available on site. There are 70km of ski runs, 45 pistes (with more than enough variety to suit all levels) & 300 snow machines. Night skiing by floodlight! While the ski resort itself was built relatively recently, staying in Guejar offers the unique opportunity to sample the skiiing of the Sierra Nevada while at the same time enjoying the experience of living in a traditional Spanish village - the best of both worlds!
In Guejar itself there are a number of local shops, a pharmacy, a bank, and various excellent restaurants to choose from - many with lovely terraces from which to enjoy the views while dining, and many with pools for the use of summer visitors. The local campsite also has an excellent restaurant with views, a pool, a play area, archery and other activities for children. The old funicular station at Maitena has been converted into a restaurant with dining and swimming on the banks of the River Genil in summer. There is canoe hire on the shore of the Canales Reservoir and horse-riding in the hills. The eccentric little bodega in the heart of the town is a great find and the welcoming moustachioed owner is a famous local character. There is also a water park near Granada and another at Almunecar..

Important Notice : Avoiding Fraud
It's rare, but some helpful hints to watch out for with regards to fraud:
- It is important to NEVER wire funds or use/employ other fund transfer mechanisms such as western union: Always use a credit card to protect yourself against fraud. If owners pressure you into providing a deposit or refuse to accept credit cards, there is a high probability that this is a scam.
- If at all suspicious of fraud, ask to see their website, or any other literature they can provide or send to you. Ask them for contact details for guests who have previously stayed on their property insisting on telephone numbers. Be suspicious of emails that originate from free email services (yahoo, hotmail, gmail, etc)
- Research the property thoroughly on the internet to see if there is any history or mention of scams associated with the property.
