Location & area
Caleta de Fuste is also known as 'El Castillo' meaning castle which relates to the 18th century watch-tower. This holiday resort boasts a large man made, horse shoe shaped beach covered with golden sand. The beach shelves gently into the water, and has a breakwater making it ideal for children. Further beaches have been made behind the Atlantico Centre creating lagoons. There is a vast number of thatched parasols and sun beds for hire.
Caleta de Fuste is an ideal holiday location for families. It is equally attractive to keen golfers due to the excellent golf courses, One of which was home to the Spanish Open in 2004.
The resort seems to be split up into different areas but you can explore all parts of Caleta by jumping on the mini train which takes you all around the area from the top of chipmunk mountain down to the harbour. At the harbour you will find the Oceanarium where you can book trips, feed fish, see the sea lions or explore an old galleon.
If you get fed up during the day soaking up the sun you may wish to take advantage of the watersports. You may want to hire a jet ski, wind surf, ride on the banana boat, relax on a pedalo, go deep sea fishing, or take a trip on the glass bottom boat from the harbour and see lots of marine life in the beautiful clear water. For the more adventurous, get your adrenaline rushing on a quad bike trail. On a Saturday you can pick up a few bargains at Caleta market, remember to always haggle the price.
There are plenty of things to do in Caleta. During the day you can enjoy some mini golf, archery on the beach, take a lesson at the sand school, feed the chipmunks that live along the beach cliffs (don't worry they are very friendly!) or have a relaxing day at the health spa. At the near by Atlantico Shopping Centre there is a multi screen cinema and a bowling alley, a large 'Spar' supermarket (similar to Asda), boutiques, bars, restaurants and even a 'McDonalds' and 'Burger King'. Why not take a visit to the next village along the coast - Las Salinas. Here you will find a salt museum, a huge whale skeleton and an excellent fish restaurant where the fish is locally caught.
There are plenty of bars and restaurants to choose from at night supplying a range of cuisine from all around the world.
Caleta de Fuste is also an excellent base to explore the rest of Fuerteventura. There are many rent-a-car businesses here that are reasonably priced. Why not hire a 4X4 Jeep and visit the shipwreck on the west of the island the ss america. Other places of interest are the 'Zoo' at La Lajita in the south of the island with it's botanical gardens, or visit the beautiful, natural lagoons at 'El Cotillo' in the NW of Fuerteventura, or have a fun filled day at the 'Baku Water Park' in Corralejo.
Back in the resort of Caleta de Fuste you can enjoy a bit of duty free shopping including perfume, cigarettes, booze, souvenirs or electrical goods.
Those of you on self catering breaks may wish to shop for food at the Spar supermarket in the Atlantico Centre, the small supermarkets in Caleta are a little more expensive but sell a good range of English products.
Another worry for parents is if the kids fall ill on holiday. Rest assured that most doctors here speak English.

It's rare, but some helpful hints to watch out for with regards to fraud:
- It is important to NEVER wire funds or use/employ other fund transfer mechanisms such as western union: Always use a credit card to protect yourself against fraud. If owners pressure you into providing a deposit or refuse to accept credit cards, there is a high probability that this is a scam.
- If at all suspicious of fraud, ask to see their website, or any other literature they can provide or send to you. Ask them for contact details for guests who have previously stayed on their property insisting on telephone numbers. Be suspicious of emails that originate from free email services (yahoo, hotmail, gmail, etc)
- Research the property thoroughly on the internet to see if there is any history or mention of scams associated with the property.
