Location & area
Antequera is approximately 40 minutes by car from Malaga Airport, and 45 minutes from the beach. The apartment is situated in the old part of Antequera (Monumental Area) just below the Roman/Moorish Castle, with views over the mountains - El Torcal. There is a frequent (and cheap) bus service to and from Malaga Airport and town. The new AVE Rail Line (Alta Velocidad España) runs from Santa Ana (10 klms outside Antequera) to Sevilla, Cordoba and Madrid, and there is also a direct Antequera railway station to Madrid link at 8.00 a.m. each morning. A new airport and University complex is due to be completed just North of the Town by 2010. The local Council (Ayuntamiento), is very keen to preserve the character of the town, and new building is restricted for this reason. Antequera is considered to be "The Crossroads of Andalucia", and is within 1 to 1.5 hrs by road from Sevilla, Cordoba, Granada and Malaga. The Town retains it's very Spanish Character with friendly and helpful shops, bars and restaurants, unlike the frantic pace of the Costas. The town has it's own local bread which is called a Mollete (delicious), gazpacho (cold tomato soup with tomato, cucumber, garlic and delicious herbs), porra (one of their specialities, a must to try) and of course Andalucian Paella, our prawns are out of this world, as they are so large, and they make a dish called 'gambas rebosadas'. Fish is obtained daily from the indoor market. The residents very much appreciate their town and are keen to preserve its identity and proud of it.
Antequera is the crossroads of Andalucia, 40mins/1hr by car from Malaga (Coast/Beaches), Granada (Alhambra), Cordoba (Moorish Mosque), and Sevilla (Architectural). It is very much a cultural town more for those of us in our middle age, or for those with specific hobbies such as, rock climbing, walking, etc, Roman/Moorish Castle, beautiful Architecture wherever you go. Fiesta times in May & August. Semana Santa (Holy Week) not to be missed in April/May. Good shopping areas, Indoor & outdoor markets, bars (tapas) & good restaurants. Indoor & Outdoor Council run pools. Nice relaxing atmosphere. As luggage weight has been decreased we have tried to think of things we would like to have/use/need if we were on holiday.
The property is app. 40 mins from Malaga or Granada Airports, all motorways. We very much appreciate what we have here, and we want to preserve it that way. There is something for everybody, sightseeing, beach activities on the coast, golf, walking in The Torcal, rock climbing in El Chorro, Lobo Park (wolf sanctuary & nature area), cycling, local tours of the town and surrounding places of interest. Sevilla is renowned for it's Architecture, Cathedral and Romeria (Fiesta where everyone dresses up in National Costume, and is surrounded by Casetas (bars) that serve drinks and tapas, Malaga boasts its Botanical Gardens, the old Malaga Mountain Route, Picasso Museum in the old part of town, plus the Port and beaches. Granada renowned for the famous Alhambra Palaces (tickets can be booked on line), Sierra Nevada for skiing (in season), markets and Moorish quarters and then Cordoba renowned for it's Moorish Mosque, Cathedral and various Architectural exhibitions. Thus
There is a wealth of variety of activities.
Amenities within easy reach include a Municipal indoor and outdoor swimming pool, an 18 hole golf course at the Antequera Golf Hotel apprx. 2 klms from apartment, fishing in the lakes (Los Embalces) about 40 minutes drive, horse riding, , plus walking in The Torcal, where there are three different routes each taking different times from 45 minutes to two hours.. Antequera itself has many places and buildings of Historical and Cultural interest, a newly built shopping centre and regular concerts to cater for all tastes, from Classical Music through Flamenco Fuerte and Copla, to Jazz and Blues, depending on the season. Some are in The Torcal Theatre, and some are in the open air and many are free.
We also have one of the best Hospitals in Andalucia, for which I can personally vouch for. Remember to bring your E111 which will cover you for any eventuality.

Amenities & services
We live in the barrio (district) of San Juan (St. John the Baptist), and are lucky to have good amenities close by i.e. 3mins walk. These include 2 Bars that serve meals and tapas, a Chemist (who understands a bit of English), a corner shop selling fresh daily milk, bread and groceries, and a local tobacconist. We also get tradesmen who bring their fresh produce daily directly from either companies or their own gardens, bread (mollete our local bread, plus French baguettes and many other types), milk, yoghurts, creams, etc., eggs from our local farm and vegetables, We also have a local bus that takes you all round the town, this runs approx every 40 mins.

Important Notice : Avoiding Fraud
It's rare, but some helpful hints to watch out for with regards to fraud:
- It is important to NEVER wire funds or use/employ other fund transfer mechanisms such as western union: Always use a credit card to protect yourself against fraud. If owners pressure you into providing a deposit or refuse to accept credit cards, there is a high probability that this is a scam.
- If at all suspicious of fraud, ask to see their website, or any other literature they can provide or send to you. Ask them for contact details for guests who have previously stayed on their property insisting on telephone numbers. Be suspicious of emails that originate from free email services (yahoo, hotmail, gmail, etc)
- Research the property thoroughly on the internet to see if there is any history or mention of scams associated with the property.
