Location & area

The old mountain village of Bedar nestles on the slopes of the Filabres Mountains with views beyond of the Sierra Cabrera and down to the Mediterranean Sea. It is said that the original inhabitants were mainly artists migrating from the Mojacar Pueblo. The village is still popular with artists inspired by the varied colours of the landscapes from the blossom on the almond groves in the spring to the vibrant colours of the orange and lemon trees in the summer. Bedar has good local facilities including 4 bars, 2 restaurants, a mini supermarket, bakers, pharmacy and bank.



Bedar is a nature lover's paradise. If you enjoy unrestricted countryside walks and appreciate flora and fauna then you will soon recognise this is an exceptional place by any standards. In the past year some 70 species of birds have been seen including the golden eagle. Wild flowers particularly in the spring (February - April) are numerous including wild orchids. Bugonveila is in abundance with various shades of vibrant colours and bright blue plumbago and bird of paradise.



The local markets are a great opportunity to buy fresh meat including dried hams with fresh fish and seafood in abundance. The region of Almeria is famous for grilled sardines and barbecued fish and seafood.
