Important Notice : Avoiding Fraud
It's rare, but some helpful hints to watch out for with regards to fraud:
- It is important to NEVER wire funds or use/employ other fund transfer mechanisms such as western union: Always use a credit card to protect yourself against fraud. If owners pressure you into providing a deposit or refuse to accept credit cards, there is a high probability that this is a scam.
- If at all suspicious of fraud, ask to see their website, or any other literature they can provide or send to you. Ask them for contact details for guests who have previously stayed on their property insisting on telephone numbers. Be suspicious of emails that originate from free email services (yahoo, hotmail, gmail, etc)
- Research the property thoroughly on the internet to see if there is any history or mention of scams associated with the property.
Apartment is fairly basic and as described (there is no kettle, but there is a hot plate and teapot for hot water), 2nd floor of block, need key to enter block and key for apartment. TV wasnt brilliant and only got a few local fuzzy channels, but we got free access to internet (dont know who's it was!) and could look things up on our laptop. Everything was working - washer, hot plate, grill, fridge, hot water. 2 bedrooms, with bedding, bathroom ok.
Misa was fantastic :) v. happy to help and left contact details if needed, showed us around, suggested local food and shops.
GETTING ABOUT - managed to walk everywhere - kalemagden park several times, churches, city centre (same shops at same prices as UK). Some fantastic local shops down back streets.
there are lots of vendors selling ice creams - all same price!! approx 50 d
tourist info is in city centre and signposted - lots of info in english and most people speak some english.
TAXIS - make sure you get taxi info before you arrive - think ours was 1000 d each way (for 4) if you wait til you get there they airport taxis can charge upto 4000 d one way.
Overall we had a fantastic time, weather was really warm (20 c plus everyday, hardly rained) everyone was friendly, food and drink were cheap, lots to do for adults and children and flight was 164 pounds return each, no extras!! I would really recommend going to Belgrade for a holiday :D
