Overview

The „Casa Bierzahn“ is an old saxon farmhouse in the village centre of Cund, which is set in the local tradition between two similar small farmhouses. The terrain backs onto the little path along the little river running through the whole village, and is bordering onto the road to the front. The whole terrain is safely fenced (see below) and all along the length of the house itself there is a magnificent „roof“ of wine casting a most welcome shadow on the lawn from June to October.
Towards the back of the terrain you will find a large garden with fresh fruits (tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, peas, potatoes etc. and a large selection of herbs) which are all at your disposal, a little barn which we partly converted into a large „cabana“ (like an open, but roofed terrace) and a platform with a barbecue grill.
You enter the „Casa Bierzahn“ through some steps in the middle of the house and enter the south facing veranda stretching along the whole front of the house. To your left you will find a fully fitted out kitchen with all modern appliances (4 flame gas cooker & oven, coffee machine, fridge, electric kettle, toaster etc.) and to your right you find little seating area featuring a tradition saxon bench and two large armchairs. From the veranda doors lead two the two bedrooms - one with a double bed, one furnished with two single beds. All furniture is made of carpathian oak by our master carpenter Ferensz and we paid special attention to a coherent design style adapting and interpreting traditional saxon and Romanian designs. The modern bathroom with a shower, WC and a washbasin is accessed through a little corridor of the kitchen area - where you can find your washing machine and a wardrobe. In a little annex you will find another small bedroom with a bunk bed in what used to be the "summer kitchen". Please note, that this room is only accessed by a seperate entrance from the garden, so you will have to walk (3 meters..) to enter the main house...
The house is heated by a wood fired traditional, fully functional tiled stoves in the bedrooms. By a wide range of small and carefully placed lights and lamps we have secured the right lighting for every atmosphere and naturally we also provide candlesticks and oil lamps....

Location & area

The tiny village Cund in Transilvania is located in the centre of the Carpathian Mountains close to the the mediaeval town of Sigisoara, the alleged birthplace of the legendary Count Dracula. The village is still strongly influenced by the traditions and customs of the Saxon community, that populated this area for the last 750 years. Authentic and cordial family traditions and customs characterise the simple life of the local population of which most are self sufficient farmers who warmly welcome visitors. The overwhelming beauty and peaceful tranquillity of the natural surroundings allow room for consideration - without any distracting influences - and are the perfect setting for a holiday where you can relax all your senses. As soon as you leave the village you will find many tracks and open land you may freely walk on four hours without meeting a single person... Cund is also an ideal base for exploring the many attractive old towns and cities in Transilvania. Within a radius of 100 km you can visit the old saxon towns of Sibiu (European Cultural Capital 2007), Sighisoara, Medias, Brasov, Bistritza, Agnita, Foggerasch, Regin and Tirgu Mures.
