Overview
This lovely group of buildings most sweetly recommends itself unto the sense the local Beira granite of manor and outbuildings is softened by a rampant camellia which lends swathes of colour when in flower.
Lovers of good organic wine have heard of Quinta da Comenda; it exports its prize- winning whites, Red and rosés all over the world you probably won't have heard is that the first king o Portugal, D. Afonso Henriques did battle nearby broke a leg and was forced to stay at his uncle place, the Quinta da Comenda. It later passed to the hands of The Order of Malta; hense the cross above the main entrance. Wander down to the river and a Roman Bridge, through the vineyards and orchards.
