Approx 2 hour drive from Porto airport and 2.5 hours from Lisbon, this is a perfect country retreat, ideal for lazy holidays, outdoor activities or house hunting.
Jardim da Tia has been restored and beautifully decorated in French country style by the English/French owners, who live opposite. All on one level it features:
Living room with two sofas (one is a double sofa bed to accommodate extra guests), woodburner, TV/DVD/CD, and an eclectic selection of books, games, DVDs. Also maps, phrase books and local information.
Two bedrooms - one double, one twin - with wooden shutters and mosquito nets
Spacious bathroom - bath/overhead shower
Fully equipped kitchen/diner - with seating for four. The kitchen opens out onto a wrap-around terrace with outside seating and wonderful views of the highest point of the Serra da Lousã - great for an alfresco meal or a spot of star gazing. Walk down through the garden to another large sun terrace with built in seating and barbeque.
For stays of four days or more a complimentary basket of local seasonal produce is provided - this will include bread, cheese, eggs, butter, fruit, vegetables, home made preserves, spring water, tea, coffee, milk, wine and beer (subject to availability).
Breakfast of organic, homemade preserves, freshly baked bread & croissants, proscuitto & chorizo, local cheeses, natural yoghurt, muesli, Serra da Lousa honey, tea, coffee & freshly squeezed orange juice is available at 10 euros per person per day (as available, please request at booking)
The village of Serpins is a pretty 2km walk away and has small shops, a few cafes, a river beach (with bar/café) and weekly farmers market. There is also a train station with a regular service to the nearest town, Lousã, (10 min by train, 15 min drive), where there are plenty of local restaurants, two supermarkets and other services, as well as a lovely hilltop castle with outdoor swimming. The train continues on to the beautiful medieval city of Coimbra which has connections to Lisbon and Porto.
Jardim da Tia provides an ideal base for exploring this virtually undiscovered area of green Portugal. Surrounded by forest (wake up to birdsong and the smell of pines) there are endless possibilities for walking, rambling and cycling. There are numerous lovely river beaches in the surrounding villages (we have not discovered them all yet!), whilst canoeing, hang-gliding and 4x4 tours are available locally. Slightly further afield, but all within an hours drive, are the beautiful beaches of the Costa da Prata (Silver Coast - excellent for surfing), the ski resort of the Serra da Estrela, the magical ancient forest of Buçaco, the UNESCO world heritage town of Tomar and the wonderfully preserved ruins at Conimbriga.

Important Notice : Avoiding Fraud
It's rare, but some helpful hints to watch out for with regards to fraud:
- It is important to NEVER wire funds or use/employ other fund transfer mechanisms such as western union: Always use a credit card to protect yourself against fraud. If owners pressure you into providing a deposit or refuse to accept credit cards, there is a high probability that this is a scam.
- If at all suspicious of fraud, ask to see their website, or any other literature they can provide or send to you. Ask them for contact details for guests who have previously stayed on their property insisting on telephone numbers. Be suspicious of emails that originate from free email services (yahoo, hotmail, gmail, etc)
- Research the property thoroughly on the internet to see if there is any history or mention of scams associated with the property.
