Location & area
Callantsoog
Callantsoog is one of oldest bathing resorts in the country and existed in two earlier guises which were swallowed up by the sea. The inhabitants of the island of 't Oghe abandoned it to the shifting dunes and moving coastline; their houses were swept away. In 1570 the village was struck by the All Saints Day flood. The church clock of 1491 survived both disasters and now hangs in the local church. At the Aunt Jantje show farm there is an exhibition devoted to beachcombing, an important source of extra income for the locals.
Today Callantsoog is an important tourist spot, hard by the North Sea beach with a convivial centre. In the dunes to the south of the village lies 't Zwanenwater nature reserve with many unusual plants, flowers and herbs. It is a breeding ground for more than 70 species of bird, including the spoonbill.

Important Notice : Avoiding Fraud
It's rare, but some helpful hints to watch out for with regards to fraud:
- It is important to NEVER wire funds or use/employ other fund transfer mechanisms such as western union: Always use a credit card to protect yourself against fraud. If owners pressure you into providing a deposit or refuse to accept credit cards, there is a high probability that this is a scam.
- If at all suspicious of fraud, ask to see their website, or any other literature they can provide or send to you. Ask them for contact details for guests who have previously stayed on their property insisting on telephone numbers. Be suspicious of emails that originate from free email services (yahoo, hotmail, gmail, etc)
- Research the property thoroughly on the internet to see if there is any history or mention of scams associated with the property.
