Location & area
Bordered by the lush vineyards of Montalcino, the area is a paradise of natural beauty, affording a wealth of walks and excursions in the valleys and low mountains of Tuscany.
Facilities at the property include two panoramic swimming pools, mountain bikes and beautiful 'Maremmani' horses, which can be available for trekking through the surrounding meadows, streams and woodlands.
The area is amongst the most beautiful of romantic Tuscany and Le Casacce is an ideal base to explore the surrounding ancient towns, grand villas, vineyards and gardens. Situated between the Amiata mountain and the small town of Montalcino (about 15 km away), in the middle of a centuries-old olive park of unbelievable beauty and overlooking the Orcia Valley. Tasting tours of the wineries and pecorino cheese producers add a further dimension to a holiday overflowing with beauty, culture, charm and gastronomy.
The olives at Le Casacce are harvested from the end of October until mid December; they are picked with ladders by hand and/as well as with mechanical aids such as portable 'combing' machines and left to drop on large nets placed around the tree. Guests can take part and what could be better at the end of your stay to come home with olive oil made with the olives you picked yourselves! However it is quite an event just tasting the 'new' oil on fresh local bread - delicious!
