Overview

The "Il Colibri" bed and breakfast is located at Montemagno of Calci, a small, delightful, medieval village which lies at the foot of MonteVerruca in a dale of olive-trees and chestnut-trees in the middle of the sunny and green Valgraziosa.

Its stone houses, the breathtaking view over the valley beneath going as far as the leaning tower of Pisa and the sea, its sunsets and the many picturesque glimpses of romantic gardens full of flowers and citrus plantations, make this small village an alternative place; another “Tuscany” far from mass tourism, which has an authentic rural charm that all those who are fond of nature and of a by now unusual quiet will love.



Montemagno can be reached from Calci (10 km east of Pisa) driving along the uphill road that goes towards the enchanting “Certosa di Pisa”; park your car in the large parking on the left, then walk along the narrow, main street. “Il Colibrì” is just there , past the first houses of the village, a few metres from the little square of the "Trattoria di Montemagno".

From Montemagno in an hour by car you can reach some of the most fascinating Tuscan towns such as Florence, Lucca, Volterra, San Gimignano as well as Viareggio, a famous sea seaside resort in Versilia. Besides in only 20 minutes by car you can be at the railway station and at the airport of Pisa and in 45 minutes you can also reach the port of Leghorn where you can take the ferryboat to Sardinia and Corsica.

The house has three floors and dates back to 1300 when the first houses of the village were built. When the house was refurbished, all its original features were kept, furthermore the oil warehouse and the basement were turned into folksy premises characterised by visible bricks, wooden beams, terracotta floors and antique parquets.

The atmosphere is very warm, cosy and family-like; in the summer months the guests can enjoy their breakfast in a small, lovely garden or in a pretty roof-garden, while in the colder months breakfast can be served in a charming living room with a nice fireplace.

Special breakfast with organic products or specific product in case of food intolerance ( with no gluten, lactose, eggs or sugar) are available at request.
The B&B accommodation has a direct access to the private bathroom.

Rita and Dario, the owners, love a simple way of life in close contact with nature.
They both devote a lot of time to studying natural disciplines; inside the house they have two small workshops where they attend to their personal passions. Dario is fond of: painting, enjoys decorative restoration of old wooden pieces of furniture, while Rita is interested in natural food and loves studying local wild herbs...

Two meek dogs and two loving cats live in the house, too; thus docile pets are welcomed, after previous notice.
