For over 140 years, the country-house "il Giardino Erboso" has been situated on one of the most picturesque hills in the Italian Le Marche in the town of Monsampolo in the province of Ascoli Piceno. Near the sea, near national parcs and near the mountains. Several historical cities are nearby to visit. The president of "Parco Piceno" writes about our region: A fundamental aspect of our promotion is the chance to offer a variety of experiences to tourists present on the Adriatic Coast. Moments in which one can alternatively visit art cities, ancient Medieval villages, fortresses and castles, picture-galleries and museums. One can taste the unique flavours of our food and drink, see life as it was lived in other periods while participating in our historical representations, and spend days in close contact with the environment in our two National Parks.



These are sentiments that can come to life simply by following one of our many tourist itineraries, where gastronomy, culture and nature blend into a single, unforgettable experience, following the calls that beckon, just as Ulysses followed new paths, drawn further onwards by the fascination of new and unique experiences.



We feel that it's only natural to link our territory to those mythical lands. Even the most demanding tourist will not go away unsatisfied after a visit to our region, as ever-new experiences and discoveries await to be unveiled and captured into memory.



The territory that we are proud to offer to all who come covers over 965 square Kilometres and has a population of more than 120 thousand inhabitants.



The enormous potential of this area and its importance throughout history is made manifest by excavations that document events and settlements of the Iron Age, the Roman period and even the Barbarian Invasions.



The urban centres are a compendium of architectural styles, covering every artistic movement, with Romanesque, Medieval, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and Neoclassic buildings that are well-conserved to this day.



Our art galleries and museums, our rural traditions, our famous poets, writers and artists, all contribute in leaving a lasting testimony to the cultural richness that has found its birthplace and dwelling in our region. And we wish to share it with others, who, like us, yearn to enrich the spirit.



This territory is the birthplace of Cecco d'Ascoli, Renaissance man ante-litteram, poet, doctor, astrologer with a certain notoriety as a wizard, burned in the rogue during the Inquisition of 1397. It was considered home to Meco del Sacco, as well. This charismatic leader of a religious sect called "the Sacconi", was burned alive for heresy, as his group preached free love centuries before it became an argument that was given space as an alternative in the sphere of social relations.



Artists such as Carlo Crivelli and Osvaldo Licini (to whom the Gallery of Modern Art in Ascoli Piceno is dedicated) are only two of the many names that testify the importance that cultural development has always had in our territory.



The historically important theatres, with their rich programs, the summer festivals, the Quintana joust of Ascoli Piceno, the Medieval Festivals of Castel Trosino and Templaria at Castignano, the festivals featuring gastronomic specialties, the thermal water spas, the Ascolan ceramics tradition, the pillow lace of Offida, the world famous wines, etc., etc., are excellent reasons to visit this territory, and remain fascinated by it.
