Overview
Welcome to Patrignone
Welcome to our hide-away in the heart of the Chianti hills in Tuscany.
If you are looking for a peaceful place to stay while you explore the treasures of Tuscany, then this might be your perfect spot. Wind your way down a long road through the cypress trees, vines, oaks and olives...and when you run out of road, that's where you'll find us. Patrignone is set in 150 acres of olive groves and forest, miles from any traffic or noise, yet we are just a few minutes from some of the world's greatest cultural treasures.
Patrignone is an working 'agri-tourismo' hidden away in the Chianti hills, not far from Castellina in Chianti. Our income comes from both visitors and agriculture. We have 5 apartments to rent, and one Villa for larger groups.
We pride ourselves on our eco-friendly values and conservation policy, and we produce our own 100% organic extra-virgin olive oil using traditional methods.
We are also very proud of our traditional Tuscan home-cooked food, using tasty local produce.
Patrignone is a family-owned and run concern, and we very much hope you will enjoy your stay in our Tuscan oasis.
La Terrazza
A sunken terrace (that gives this apartment its name) is your own private outdoor dining area, filled with terracotta pots and climbing honeysuckle. From here you enter the oldest part of the house, with the most beautiful arch dating back to 1440. This is the coolest part of the house in the summer.
La Terrazza has a large dining room, kitchen and sitting room, with huge old beams and furnished with some lovely old oak furniture. If you prefer to eat outside, feel free to use your own little private terrace, or use the grander Terracotta Terrace just a few yards away.
Another arch leads to a large bedroom, which houses antique furniture rescued from an Italian Manor House prior to demolition. It has a magnificent king-size walnut bed with matching wardrobe as well as a small single.
The second bedroom is also uniquely furnished with three single beds in in a painted country styling.
Each room has its own en-suite bathroom with shower, w/c and wash-hand basin. La Terrazza backs onto our ivy-covered enclosed courtyard.
This is the first part of the house that was built. Other sections were added one or two rooms at a time as the family prospered or when a son got married (when married, daughters left the household to join the husband's family).
This is the largest apartment we have, and the coolest in the summer, but it has a lovely antique feel that takes you back to the days when the house was built.

Location & area
Patrignone is right in the middle of Chianti, at the epicenter of Tuscany's cultural treasures, just 10 minutes from the beautiful hill-top town of Castellina in Chianti, with its full compliment of restaurants, cafes and shops (and a small supermarket). Siena is just 35 minutes away, and Florence 40 minutes in the other direction, San Gimignano is 30 mins away, with Volterra the next village along. You really couldn't pick a more central location. There's no doubt that you'll need a car to get the most of Chianti's nooks and crannies, but if you feel like venturing further afield, within a 1.5-hour drive you'll find white sandy beaches, typically beautiful seaside resorts, dozens of hot springs, and the majesty of the snow-covered Apennines clearly visible from Patrignone's terracotta terrace. And if you're into cycling, walking, nature-watching, or ballooning, these activities and more can be easily organized. Just let us know what your interests are, and we'll give you some options.
