Overview
Welcome to La Fontana, our Country House and the happy home of April's family in Amelia, Umbria, Italy. We've been in the business for more that 20 years and we are still enthusiastic of our land, the house and of the pleasant opportunity of having you as our guests for your holidays in Italy.
La Fontana is a rustic Umbrian Farmhouse with a main house and three cottages that are rented weekly to tourists,. For shorter visits, we also can provide B&B accommodation, in which case we furnish breakfast in the cottage. On request we can offer dinner to our guests.
The seven acres of the property, bought by April Davis more than 20 years ago, include the olive grove, the orchard and the garden, a mixture of Mediterranean and English taste with a variety of flowering shrubs and trees, cypresses and oaks. There is a grotto with an Etruscan tomb. The cottages and the main house are located so that none can disturb the privacy of the guests. Limonaia is a self catering unit equipped with all necessities. The shared swimming pool (12m x 6m) is in a very private and secluded grove in the garden, surrounded by flowers.
The property is situated in a sunny valley, ideal for relaxing by the swimming pool, after visiting the beautiful Umbrain country side. After the death of April, La Fontana is run by her daughter, Flavia, and a family friend from Denmark, Mona. We speak Italian, English and Danish and live in the main house so we are always available to give good advise on what to do and where to go. There are dog and cats on the property, so if you have problems with animals please let us know in advance so we can arrange things. Babies and children are also welcome. Groups of 6 or 7 are welcome and can be accommodated in the various cottages.
We have our own vegetable garden and produce our own olive oil. Tennis nearby at the local Tennis Club. House riding and excursions in various facilities. Guided tours can be arranged on requests. The house is only 1km from the town, just about in walking distance. The paved road ends in a white road just 300m from the house.

Location & area
Amelia is sited on rolling hills, bordered on the north by thick woods and on the south by olive groves and vineyards. The walls originate from the pre-Etruscan period (700 BC) while the town has maintained its medieval plan without significant change in centuries. From the Roman period the most striking vestiges are the ancient cisterns and the statue of Germanico. The town people are charming and there are some good restaurants that serve typical Umbrian food. Wine producers are all around and it is fun to go round the local Cantine. The same can be done for the oil, the local production is the best in Italy.

- Mona is taking care of the food for the guests that want to have dinner at La Fontana. Dinners need to be booked in advance. The food is mainly from our biological vegetable garden, the oil is our own and other products come from the farm next door. Umbria is famous for prosciutto, salami and other pork specialities so we recommend that you try the very good selection that we can offer. Mona is a wine exporter and she can give you very good advice on the local wines and on the best Italian wines to purchase while in Italy. She can also arrange a wine tour of the local producers. Please feel free to ask in advance any specific menu. We cater only to our guests and the price of a dinner, inclusive of local wine, is 25 Euro. Breakfast is served for the guests that opt for the B&B solution. We furnish bread, butter, home made jam, milk, yogurt, coffee or tea directly in the cottages.

Important Notice : Avoiding Fraud
It's rare, but some helpful hints to watch out for with regards to fraud:
- It is important to NEVER wire funds or use/employ other fund transfer mechanisms such as western union: Always use a credit card to protect yourself against fraud. If owners pressure you into providing a deposit or refuse to accept credit cards, there is a high probability that this is a scam.
- If at all suspicious of fraud, ask to see their website, or any other literature they can provide or send to you. Ask them for contact details for guests who have previously stayed on their property insisting on telephone numbers. Be suspicious of emails that originate from free email services (yahoo, hotmail, gmail, etc)
- Research the property thoroughly on the internet to see if there is any history or mention of scams associated with the property.
