Apartment 9 Bjarnarstigur, Reykjavik, Iceland-- In March I expected frigid temperatures but with geothermal heating the apartment was so warm often the windows needed to be open. The one-bedroom apartment and sofa sleeper were comfortable, clean, with a fully equip kitchen and linens. There is an internet connection and phone to make free local calls.
Apartment 9 is downtown, 40 minutes from Keflavik International Airport,
centrally located in a residential area an easy walk to the city, which
feels more like a village with colorful roof top shops tucked along narrow streets
leading to the sea. Restaurants abound in the area, from traditional Icelandic food to fine dining,to cafés and coffee shops. Hand knitted woolen goods, Icelandic Designer clothing shops and art galleries are in walking distance from the apartment.
The apartment was my base for exploring Iceland. The Blue Lagoon, waterfalls, glaciers and lava fields covered in gray-green moss are easy day trips from the apartment.
Leaving my belongings behind, I traveled north to the Snaefellsnes peninsula searching for glaciers, the Eldborg Crater and to chase the Northern Lights.
Washing clothes on my return was convenient with the washer and dryer in the
apartment. The owners were helpful in answering my questions about a rental
car, directions to the apartment and exchange rates. My two week stay was reasonable priced, which I paid by credit card on arrival.
Based on my pleasant stay there, I highly recommend staying at Apartment 9 Bjarnarstigur.

Important Notice : Avoiding Fraud
It's rare, but some helpful hints to watch out for with regards to fraud:
- It is important to NEVER wire funds or use/employ other fund transfer mechanisms such as western union: Always use a credit card to protect yourself against fraud. If owners pressure you into providing a deposit or refuse to accept credit cards, there is a high probability that this is a scam.
- If at all suspicious of fraud, ask to see their website, or any other literature they can provide or send to you. Ask them for contact details for guests who have previously stayed on their property insisting on telephone numbers. Be suspicious of emails that originate from free email services (yahoo, hotmail, gmail, etc)
- Research the property thoroughly on the internet to see if there is any history or mention of scams associated with the property.
- (almost) everything you need for a long-term stay, including washing machine & tumble dryer
- nice bathroom
- roomy kitchen equipped with all the basics you'll need, including a large dining table
- high speed Internet for free
- very good location - the apartment is located in a quiet side street and in a very short walking distance from Laugavegur main street, next to Skólavörðustígur street with its many shops, and very close to Hallgrímskirkja
