Overview
Fou'rnos(= oven)built with stones circa 1850, is named after its original use. A baker used to live here; the big oven (using wood) that baked the food and the bread of the neighborhood can still be used. A very cosy and quiet residence, it expands in two levels. All the house's internal structures are made of hand crafted wood. Wherever possible, traditional material and ways of building were used; an exception to that are its modern electric wiring, kitchen and bathroom water connections, and sewage.
KITCHEN: Electric cooker, fridge, table. Located within the main salla.
BATHROOM: Basin, shower, WC.
MAIN SALLA: A fine piece of traditional Koskinou architecture. Its central arch is overlooked by a 5.50 meters (18 feet) high wooden beamed ceiling. One sky light window allows the natural daylight and a cooling breeze to pass through the room. Wooden couch, coffee table, dining table and chairs, satellite TV, and a big fireplace for the winter nights.
PATARO's (= wooden traditional Koskinou platform bed): One, sleeping up to four persons. Located within the main salla.
OVEN: Big oven burning wood. Left intact, it is still the neighborhood's favorite place to prepare food. Located at the entrance of the house.

Location & area
The traditional village of Koskinou was established in the 15th century and was at the time partly protected by a purpose-built castle. It is situated on a hill, at the east side of the island of Rhodes (or: Rodos, Rodi), 9km (around 6 miles) from the centre of the City of Rhodes (or: Rodos, Rodi). It has 2,500 inhabitants.
Travel guides usually state that Koskinou is famous for its unique traditional houses, its magnificently decorated 1873 built church, and Gia'nnis restaurant. All very true.
However, there is also ANOTHER SIDE OF
KOSKINOU. It is the Koskinou with its FRIENDLY and HOSPITABLE RESIDENTS; its four other small RESTAURANTS located on pedestrian streets offering a variety of meals. It is the Koskinou with its PEACEFUL
SURROUNDINGS; its memorable SUNSETS; its cooling northern BREEZE; its close PROXIMITY to both the CITY OF RHODES and to a number of crystal-water BEACHES. It is the Koskinou that offers the chance to combine the experience of traditional village life, with a wide choice of outings just a short drive away.
It is that Koskinou that has captured the hearts of quite a number of GREEK ARTISTS and NORTHERN EUROPEANS who now LIVE THERE permanently.
GUESTS staying at the house of Fournos of RhodesTraditionalHouses WILL HAVE THE CHANCE TO TASTE THE EVERY DAY LIFE OF A GREEK VILLAGE, while after a 10 minutes drive (in different directions) they could be at the City of Rhodes, or Faliraki, or to a number of crystal-water beaches.
GUESTS staying at the house of Fournos of RhodesTraditionalHouses will actually LIVE AMONG THE LOCAL RESIDENTS of Koskinou, while staying in a traditional house, carefully renovated to offer modern amenities.
They will have OPPORTUNITIES to meet and form lasting FRIENDSHIPS with the locals in many different occasions:
-while SHOPPING at one of Koskinou's SMALL FOOD STORES, where fresh vegetable and fruit from the LOCAL PRODUCE are brought-in daily;
-or, while dining in one of the five RESTAURANT of the village (just accept the unsolicited offer of a glass of local wine, and a vibrant conversation will most probably follow);
-or, while attending a panygi'ri (= LOCAL
FEAST, open to everybody, where good food, local wine and some extraordinary Greek dancing to the tunes of a live band can be found);
-or, by simply sitting outside their house after sunset in a while, one of the villagers will probably approach you striking a conversation, only looking for the opportunity to tell you about the experiences of his/her lifetime.
Ready for a SWIM? A FIVE MINUTE to one-and-a-half hour DRIVE (depending on your taste, or simply on how hot you feel) will give you a wide range of choices: from isolated sandy beaches, to multi-ethnically crowded ones, to the surfers' paradise.
For some different day-time action you can try the WATER PARK (15 minutes), the Afandou GOLF range (20 minutes), the HORSE RIDING club (10 minutes), or HIKING at Profitis Elias(40 minutes).
For a NIGHT OUT, you are bound to find something for your choice in the VIBRANT NIGHTLIFE of the city of Rhodes (6km). Or, you might want to witness the really rough nights of Faliraki (7km).

Amenities & services
Guests staying for only one week in the house of Fournos will acquire a new feeling of what living in a traditional environment is all about.
It actually DOES NOT HAVE A BEDROOM.
Nevertheless, within its main salla there is one traditional high risen wooden 'sleeping platform'. As it is impossible to express same in the basic feutures displayed in this site, we took the libery to claim that the house does have one bedroom (i.e., we classified the main salla also as a bedroom). For a full understanding and appreciation of this, please visit our website.

Ask them for contact details for guests who have previously stayed on their property insisting on telephone numbers. Be suspicious of emails that originate from free email services (yahoo, hotmail, gmail, etc)
- Research the property thoroughly on the internet to see if there is any history or mention of scams associated with the property.
