Overview

The house was build about 100 years ago and was renovated in 2007 to its current form. It was originally used as a residence as well as a winepress. In the living room one can still see the "poulani", the hole where the stum was poured from the "lanos", the space where the grapes were pressed. It is situated at the east side of the village near the churches of Panagia Tsigkouriotissa and Saint Athanasios.

Bedroom The bedroom is the biggest room of the house. It's made of stone according to traditional architecture and it is a dome (white stone arch) with a skylight to allow natural light to enter the room.
Living room The living room was the winepress in the original use of the house. In its original arrangement the room contained a "lano" (winepress) which was defined by a dwarf wall of about 1 meter at the right side of the room. In the center of the room you can still see the "poulani". The room in made of stone.

The yard is spacious, partialy covered by a trellis with creeper plants which cast their shadow so as to keep it cool during the day.

Location & area

Pitsinades is a small medieval thorp at the center of Kythera near the village Aroniadika. It is situated on a hill across the monastery of Saint Theodoros, who is considered the patron saint of the island's old capital, Paleochora. The village is about 5km away from Potamos, the nearest big village and less than 1km from Aroniadika. Ôhe settlement is traditional with all the streets paved with slabds. The only asphalt roadways are those that connect the settlement with the village Aroniadika and with the monastery of Saint Theodoros.
