Overview
The guest house Adriades was created at the top of the village Smari, at the location Arhontika next to the old school.
It is named after the wonderful view that someone can enjoy from the guest house, as the side of the mountain across is full of oaks, commonly called drides or adriades in the folk speech.

Location & area
The village Smari lies in the inland of the Prefecture of Heraklion in Crete, it belongs to the Municipality of Kastelli and is characterized as a traditional settlement.
It is 7 km far from Kastelli and 27 km from the center of Heraklion, at an altitude of 320 m; it is inhabited by 150 persons.
Smari emits a unique charm, which is unfolded gradually and wins us with no return.
A walk in the village, arrack with the local population, a walk at Profitis Ilias, and a small stop at the places where arrack is prepared⦠everything fits to each other and gives us pleasure, in its own way.
They say that in order to get acquainted with a place you must first get acquainted with its people. Mikeâs tavern in the main square of the village (Rousa) as well as Marinaâs tavern at the most graphical alley will travel you to Cretan cuisine. The village is full of small coffee houses-groceries which we strongly recommend.
Near the village there are some byzantine churches, historiated: Saint George with, unfortunately, white-washed murals and Christ Sotiras with discrete murals. Saint Paraskevi, Saint Panteleimonas and Panagia the Keralimniotisa.
Archaeological excavations conducted during the 80ies financed by the villagers and with a small aid granted by the Ministry of Culture, proved that the location was full of life since great antiquity. The architectural remains, excavated under the supervision of D. Hatsi-Vallianou, lead to the conclusion that the place had been used continually from the Midminoic until the Anatolian era (1800 â 630 b.C.). The view from the Acropol is wonderful and you can distinguish even the northern coast of Gouves. On the east side of the Acropol you can see the traditional settlement of Lagos, whereas when descending towards Smari 100 m from the Acropol you can see the beautiful small church of Profitis Ilias.
On July 20, at the feast of Profitis Ilias, a big fete is organized in the village with a traditional Cretan feast. The cultural association of the village organizes different cultural events, such as the arrack feast, Christmas and Eastern carols and feast of âClean Mondayâ. Moreover, a very remarkable newspaper is published, named Arismari.

Important Notice : Avoiding Fraud
It's rare, but some helpful hints to watch out for with regards to fraud:
- It is important to NEVER wire funds or use/employ other fund transfer mechanisms such as western union: Always use a credit card to protect yourself against fraud. If owners pressure you into providing a deposit or refuse to accept credit cards, there is a high probability that this is a scam.
- If at all suspicious of fraud, ask to see their website, or any other literature they can provide or send to you. Ask them for contact details for guests who have previously stayed on their property insisting on telephone numbers. Be suspicious of emails that originate from free email services (yahoo, hotmail, gmail, etc)
- Research the property thoroughly on the internet to see if there is any history or mention of scams associated with the property.
