in the small hillside hamlet of Gallou, is a handsome and graciously proportioned old restored stone building, which once formed part of a magnificent Venetian Estate in the hillsides, 5 Km west of Rethymno. The surrounding hills are richly verdant with diverse flora, and in parts still thickly wooded with Oak trees, yet the nearest sandy beach is only 2 Km away. The house has three bedrooms and is suitable for up to 6 people. A private swimming pool of 30 sqm in size is available. The entrance to the house is off the sleepy main square of the village, and the living area of the house is very privately and quietly positioned behind an enormous mellowed stone arch. The villa has been formed out of the great west vault with more than one metre thick stone walls and the oil mill, all of which have been authentically and carefully converted to form a most unusual and inspiring living area of 140 m/2.
The surrounding south facing walled gardens and terraces are particularly lovely, with an orangery and vineyard, fruit trees and prickly pears. Indoors, a tasteful combination of mellowed stone, solid wood fitments, beamed ceilings, soft earth colours, and the gracious scale of the building give a unique atmosphere. The villa is equipped with under floor heating (at an extra local charge) and a huge stone fireplace for the cooler times of the year. The vault provides a comfortable large split-level living/dining area, with a kitchen area at one end. Beyond this, a hallway leads to the ground floor master bedroom with twin beds and next door a separate full bathroom. Upstairs via a wooden staircase are a further two bedrooms with twin beds. A further flight of stairs takes you to an enormous private tiled roof terrace with far reaching views to the sea, village rooftops and the beautiful surrounding countryside. Further facilities are a satellite TV and telephone, which can be used also for inter net connection. To the side and rear of the house, the tiled sun terraces, and the barbecue corner, are perfect for private sunbathing and for dining Al Fresco
