Overview
As the owners of LemonTree House, we wish you a warm welcome and hope you consider a stay with us. We are a British couple who always dreamed of living the "Greek" life and finally, after 30 years of holidaying in Greece, made it a reality. We are passionate about Greece and its traditions and customs and would like to share our knowledge and local hospitality with you, should you consider a Greek holiday.
This 17th century stone village house was originally the old village taverna, then a former artists house for over forty years. Now it has been lovely restored and many of its authentic traditional Greek features still remain. It is situated in the heart of the historical old town of Ermioni, within the region of Argolida in the Peloponnese. Ermioni is opposite the Saronic islands of Hydra and Spetses and a short distance from Poros.
The guest accommodation offered is on the ground floor of the house and is spacious. It benefits from having 2 twin bedrooms, a large spacious entrance hall, a beautifully presented dining kitchen with additional 2 Greek traditional bed settees, 2 walk-in shower rooms, with WCs and wash hand basins, and a small lobby. Both sets of double doors lead to 2 charming private courtyards, filled with flowers and garden furniture. Also there is a BBQ for al-fresco dining during the summer months.
The accommodation has been furnished to the highest standard and incorporates all the traditional features, which include original stone floors, stone arch which spans the width of the main kitchen dining area, fireplace which is in one of the bedrooms, thick stone walls, charming private courtyards and shuttered windows.
The house also has all the comforts of modern living, such as solar powered hot water, double glazed windows and central heating for the cosy winter nights, walk-in showers and ceiling fans.
Ermioni is on a peninsular embraced on both sides by the sea, with a woodland area at the end called BISTI. On the north side is the natural harbour with small fishing boats, shops, banks, post office, pharmacies, cafes, buses, taxis, ferries and the colourful weekly market. On the south side is Mandrakia where there are waterside bars, restaurants and tavernas with their octopus hung out in the sun. The Pine covered Bisti is the perfect place to walk and swim. It has spectacular views across to Hydra and Thermissia, a windmill, ancient remains to discover, and rocky coves with crystal clear waters. The old town rises up a hillside with fine views across to the islands and back across the fertile plains of citrus fruit, pomegranates and olive groves to the mountains behind. Within the old village of Ermioni, there are many traditional white/blue/lemon painted houses, besides a museum, 2 churches, the local bakers, Gyros bar and a couple of supermarkets. The sea, restaurants and old village are just a few minutes walk away and the rest of the towns amenities are about 5 minutes walk.
Ermioni is the undiscovered jewel of the Argolida within the Peloponnese, and has plenty of historic traditions and genuine hospitality. The area is undiscovered by mass tourism and is a rare gem, and has been kept a secret by the locals and visiting Athenians. Ermioni is classed as a seaside town of captivating beauty or an island town. It is a working Greek community with a mixture of ages, so it doesnt close down in winter.
Historically, the Argolida within the Peloponnese is one of the most important historical areas and there are a wide selection of various ancient and medieval sites, which one can visit. There are also many beautiful spots around the coast, which makes this area a perfect destination for your holidays.
The LemonTree House makes an ideal all year round base to many historical sites, including Athens, Nafplio, Epidavros, Mycenae, Tiryns and the Saronic islands of Hydra, Poros and Spetses. Whether you want to explore the great historical and cultural sites, or just relax on the beautiful beaches, walking, especially through the gorge of Katafyki, riding, shopping or exploring the caves, then the choice is yours.
