Overview
Ampeils is an old stone wine maker's house that has been recently renovated. The house is set in Gers, France in the midst of the tranquil Armagnac vineyards and fields of sunflowers and rolling hills and on a clear day the Pyrenees mountains can be seen from the garden and terrace. It is an ideal location to visit the nearby bastide towns and villages, particularly Larresingle and the Roman Villa at Serviac. There are a number of the resting places to visit on the pilgrimage route to Compostela, the nearest being just a few kilometres at the Abbey de Flaran. The nearby spectacular Chateau de Cassaigne is full of history and of course you can sample and buy the wonderful Armagnac.The nearby river Baise has boat trips from Condom where you can spot kingfishers and spend the day on the river.

The property is situated in a small hamlet a few minutes drive outside Valence sur Baise where the tranquil river Baise meanders on through to the beautiful town of Condom. There are lots to see and do; there are resurants and cafe's that are local to the house (About 5 min drive) to valence sur Baise. On the ground floor, the traditional French kitchen is fully equipped for 6 people around the table and has a built in electric cooker & hob, microwave, fridge and dishwasher.
The more formal dining room is able to seat 8 people in comfort. There is a utility room with a toilet, oil fired boiler for the central heating, a washing machine, clothes drier and a fridge freezer.
The main room of the house is the old chai which has been converted into a large sitting room able to seat 10 people in comfort. In the winter the room is kept warm and cosy by a log burning stove in a traditional fireplace and during the summer months the sun floods into the room.
The first floor is accessed by a traditional and original gallery spiral staircase opening up onto a double aspect landing with large window facing the front of the house and doors to the rear overlooking the garden and vineyards.
All the 3 bedrooms have different traditional French themes. They are all fully equipped with drawer and wardrobe space together with bedding for summer and winter use.
Bedroom 1 is a dual aspect room over looking the front of the house and garden and where it is possible to see the Pyrenees. It is traditional with mahogany furniture and rug.
Bedroom 2 is a cool room in summer with a view over the front garden which you can look out from the French style sofa. Bedroom 3 looks over the rear garden and vineyards. This bedroom has a vaulted ceiling and part natural stone.
