Overview

Dordogne France: Ancient barn converted to a spacious House on one level with an optional adjoining but independent Guest House: the Guest House has a ground floor, first floor and a mezzanine. Credit card payment accepted. Private pool. Sleeps up to 6 in Main House + 5 in Guest House.

The Main house sleeps up to 6 + infant in a cot, offered as an individual let or with optional additional accommodation in the adjoining Guest House. Each house has: a separate kitchen, living room, 2 bedrooms, a bathroom, a shower room, and a sofa bed in the living room (the Main house has two sofa beds in the living room). The Guest House is not offered as an individual let.

This beautiful holiday location is in an idyllic valley with outstanding views, south west aspect with sun trap terraces and a 9m x 4m private swimming pool. The romantic 300 year old Barn, converted into two houses, offers a wonderful opportunity to completely unwind in spacious comfortable accommodation.

The Guest house is only rented jointly with the Main House but we can offer the Main House alone with sole use of grounds and pool for rental.

The Main House of 125 m2 is on one level and the Guest House of 117 m2 has three floors. With a light airy interior aspect, furnished and equipped to the high standard of a comfortable home, the emphasis of this holiday let is on complete relaxation. In April, May and late October onwards we can often vary our Saturday incoming day or offer long weekends.

The Guest House can be rented on daily basis for guests to the Main House.

The owners, who live in a neighbouring village, personally maintain the property.

If friends or family decide at the last moment to join you, the guest house will always be available for a late booking at a weekly or daily tariff.

The swimming pool, 9m x 4m with a uniform depth of 1.5m, overlooks the view of the valley from the pool side. It is completely fenced with a padlocked gate. The pool season normally runs from May until October. Sun loungers, garden furniture and sun umbrellas are provided and there is a good sized efficient barbecue. There is a full garden and pool maintenance service. Duvets, pillows and one set of bed linen per bed are supplied at no additional charge. For two week rentals sheets and pillow cases are changed weekly. House towels can be provided on request. Logs can be provided for the Main House in the low season. There is a smoke alarm and fire extinguisher in each house.

This is the home of prehistory and the sight seeing attractions range from the interesting to the spectacular. Although the pace of life is slow a wide range of activities can be enjoyed and include: Hot-air ballooning, Paintball or Quad bikes at Hautefort, golf at Brive , canoing, horse riding, tennis, donkey rides, cycle hire, and fishing, all within easy reach. There are lazy boat rides along the rivers or for the more active, the large man made lake at Brive offers a wide variety of water sports. Thenon, our local market town, now boasts an adventure trail forest for the energetic, with various stages of difficulty of courses. See the web pages on our site for:Terrasson a beautiful ancient town, doorway to the Périgord Noir and the Vézére valley, Montignac and the Lascaux caves and our closest large town. Perigueux , the capital of the Dordogne. Terrasson is on the border of the Corréze where can be discovered the ancient religious city of Rocamadour. Enthusiastic building restoration is a passion in this region and there is much to be admired from the lovingly restored old buildings, which seem to be found in almost every hamlet or village, to the renovated old quarters of the towns.

This area of the Dordogne is between Hautefort, in the White Périgord, and Montignac, in the Black Périgord. It is characterised by lush countryside, gently rolling hills, impressive caves and woodlands, rivers and lakes, sleepy hamlets and charming friendly people. The climate is usually excellent with long hot summers. An early warm spring and a glorious autumn can often be enjoyed by the fortunate visitor who is able to take advantage of the low season rates. Off the beaten track of the Dordogne valley tourist routes, whilst being ideally situated for touring the whole of the Dordogne and the Correze by car, La Queyrelie offers a tranquil rural retreat from which to explore the countryside on foot taking the many designated rambling trails.

All prices are quoted for a full capacity let, for smaller parties discounts will sometimes be considered.

A damages deposit of 200 euros in cash is payable on arrival, this is held against serious damage or excessive cleaning problems and (all being well) is refundable on the morning of departure. Bookings will be accepted by telephone or e-mail, followed by a deposit of 30% of the total cost of the holiday within 6 days of that call. The balance will be payable 8 weeks before arrival. When booking please will you note that the accommodation in the Main House is for a maximum of six people with a baby in a cot and the Guest House for five people.

The pool, terraces and garden are for the exclusive use of the party that have been specified on booking. Any variation on an initial booking must be notified to us and be agreed by us in writing prior to your arrival. Every possible effort will be made to maintain the pool and the household equipment in good order for the enjoyment of our guests, however, we cannot accept liability in the event of an unforeseen calamity but would ask you to bear with us while we attempt to rectify the problem as soon possible. We live in a neighbouring village and are on hand for any problems which may arise. For reasons of changeover cleaning the arrival time is 5pm and the departure time is 9am. We are sorry but love them as we do we never accept animals.

Location & area

LA QUEYRELIE: is a tiny hamlet nestling in the side of a beautiful valley and is situated at the end of a secluded country lane. It is not even shown on some maps! The lane is a no-through road. Although not far by car from the access to the new autoroute and the N89 as well as the D704 there is absolutely no traffic noise from these roads. There is a very popular restaurant within walking distance of La Queyrelie in the neighbouring village of Le Grand Coderc. The village of Azerat (approx. 5mins. drive) is not within comfortable walking distance other than for hill walking enthusiasts. Azerat only has one bar restaurant now but it does have a grocers/ post office, a swimming pool, a shady boules pitch and a tennis court. Thenon, a small market town, is about five minutes drive from Azerat and has several very good restaurants, a good selection of shops and a Tuesday morning market. St Rabier on the D704 (6 mins drive) has a grocers, a bar and two restaurants. There are many other very good restaurants locally with menus for a five course meal from around 12 euros often with wine included. The beautiful Chateau town of Hautefort and the lake Coucou are within 15 minutes drive. Our excellent local doctor in Hautefort is English speaking.

Amenities & services

The Main House, overlooking the private swimming pool, has a large living room (58m²), a separate fully equipped kitchen, two bedrooms one with a double and 2 single beds, a shower-room, a bathroom, and two toilets. It has very thick walls and mainly terracotta tiled floors to give a welcome cool retreat from the heat of the Périgord summer. For cooler days and evenings in the lower season there is a substantial glass fronted wood burning stove with an ample supply of logs. Central heating for both units is also available in the low season, subject to arrangement, at an additional charge. Although this house is on one level there are several flights of steps in the grounds. The high beamed living room has a hand carved stone fireplace housing a substantial glass fronted wood burning stove. Triple double glazed French windows lead onto a very large south facing suntrap terrace. Windows to either side of the fireplace overlook the pool, garden and valley. The room is comfortably furnished to include; ceiling fan, reading lamps, two writing desks, a six place dining table which extends to ten places, arm chairs, a 3 place settee and two 3 seater sofa beds. It has an open aspect inner lobby containing a large bookcase full of paperbacks. A satellite TV is provided.
There are two double bedrooms, both are carpeted and have good wardrobe space. Bedroom 1 has a double bed and an en suite bathroom with a bath, hand basin and bidet, there is a separate w.c. outside of the suite. Bedroom 2 has a double bed and two single beds, and an adjacent w.c./shower-room.

A child's cot, cot linen and a child's highchair are available on request at no charge.

The separate kitchen is of a good size with ample work tops and is very well equipped to include a family size fridge/freezer, an upright freezer, a gaz oven with a four burner hob, micro wave oven, washing machine and a dishwasher. The kitchen window overlooks the pool, valley and garden. The kitchen door leads down to the second terrace which is laid to the width of the house and overlooks the pool and gives a panoramic view of the valley. This terrace connects to the south facing terrace via a gate. The established garden is on an incline of two levels with several flights of steps.

Adjoining the Main House there is a spacious independent two bedroom guest house which is only let jointly with the Main House. There is no interconnecting interior door between the two houses.

The self contained guest house on three floors, has steps leading up to front door entering onto first floor: large, (approx.40m²) living room, the furniture in this room includes a 3 seater sofa bed. The bathroom with w.c. is on this floor, stairs leading up to a twin bedded mezzanine bedroom and stairs leading down to ground floor; 19 m² kitchen/diner , master bedroom with double bed and single bed and ensuite shower-room/w.c. The ground floor kitchen/diner looks onto paved terrace with covered eating area. This terrace interconnects to the Main House south-facing terrace and also gives access through a garden door to a parking area. There is outside terrace lighting. The Guest House is a conversion of the barn adjoining the Main House. The first and second floor are created out of a high slate roof mansard to retain a wealth of exposed original oak beams with optimum use of windows to give a spacious romantic living area overlooked by the mezzanine bedroom. The ground floor kitchen/diner has original oak beams and original stone wall with a glazed open aspect to the terrace. In addition to a satellite TV in the Main House there is a DVD player in the Guest House. The Guest House is only let jointly with the Main House. There are ceiling fans in the living room and the kitchen/breakfast room. Because the Guest House is laid to three floors with open tread staircases and a mezzanine bedroom this unit is not suitable for very young mobile children or for people who find stairs difficult. There is a washing machine but no dishwasher in the Guest House. The Guest house can be rented on daily basis for guests to the Main House.
