Overview
Our holiday rental house is located in the gorgeous town of Semur-en-Auxois in rural Burgundy. The Armancon river winds through the town, and our house sits directly on its banks, just a few minutes' walk from the center of town.
The house has two bedrooms: one upstairs, with a queen bed, hardwood floors and a balcony with panoramic views of the ancient city wall and towers. The second bedroom is downstairs (at river level), with two twin beds (may be joined to form a king bed), an en-suite bathroom with a shower, and direct access to the riverfront patio.
Please note that the second bedroom is accessible only by a separate entrance, and is therefore not suitable for young children.
The main level of the house has a kitchen equipped with modern appliances including a full-sized fridge, four-ring hob/stove and oven, dishwasher, as well as a microwave, blender, toaster, two coffeemakers (press and filter), and an electric kettle.
The jewel of the house is the large Salon (living room), which has wall-to-wall windows -- very rare for such an old house -- and spectacular views of the river and the town ramparts and towers. The Salon has ample seating, and one of the sofas can fold out into a queen bed. There is also a TV/VCR/DVD and a CD/mp3 player, and the TV can receive English channels via satellite.
Located between Chablis and Beaune, two major wine-producing towns in the Cote d'Or, our house is perfectly situated to explore the region. Or, just come to relax and soak up the ambience of this adorable French town, and live like the French do!

Location & area
Semur-en-Auxois is a historical town in the Cote d'Or region of Burgundy, France. It manages the impressive balance of retaining its old-world charm and friendliness while also containing any and all modern amenities that you might need. Semur has more restaurants and cafes than we can name in this space, at least five boulangeries (bakeries), boutique shopping, a fantastic wine shop, museums and small art galleries, along with modern necessities like grocery stores (3), pharmacies (2), banks (many -- we've never counted), and a hospital (which we have visited, but hope you will never need to!).
Semur is about 15 km from the town of Montbard, which hosts a train station. Montbard is the first stop on the TGV from Paris, and the trip takes about an hour. You can rent a car in Montbard and drive from there to the house, or you can rent a car in Paris and drive straight to the house (which takes about 2.5 hours). The house is about 2.5 hours from Lyon and 2 hours from Geneva as well -- so you have your choice of major airport.

Important Notice : Avoiding Fraud
It's rare, but some helpful hints to watch out for with regards to fraud:
- It is important to NEVER wire funds or use/employ other fund transfer mechanisms such as western union: Always use a credit card to protect yourself against fraud. If owners pressure you into providing a deposit or refuse to accept credit cards, there is a high probability that this is a scam.
- If at all suspicious of fraud, ask to see their website, or any other literature they can provide or send to you. Ask them for contact details for guests who have previously stayed on their property insisting on telephone numbers. Be suspicious of emails that originate from free email services (yahoo, hotmail, gmail, etc)
- Research the property thoroughly on the internet to see if there is any history or mention of scams associated with the property.
