Les Eaux Tranquilles is situated at the northern end of the spectacular Gorge la Pierre-Lys (now officially protected as an area of outstanding beauty) some 320 metres above sea level which is some 200 metres below the winter snow line. This makes us ideally located for both summer and winter vacations. We are located midway between the cities of Carcassonne and Perpignan (40 and 50 minute drive respectively) both of which have airports serving the UK, Belgium and Ireland.

Amenities & services
Our grounds comprise of a large 0.75 hectare/2 acre (private) park which is bordered by the river Aude that rises in the Pyrenees and flows down to the sea at Narbonne (a hour and a half away). Amply stocked with both trout and salmon the river was visited by Robert Redford who stayed nearby a few years back. During his stay he read a book called "And a River Ran Through It". Seeing the Aude and watching it on its relentless journey to the sea he felt obligated to translate the book into a world famous film by the same name in which he starred.
Every other year we are visited by the Tour de France which passes at the top of our road.

Important Notice : Avoiding Fraud
It's rare, but some helpful hints to watch out for with regards to fraud:
- It is important to NEVER wire funds or use/employ other fund transfer mechanisms such as western union: Always use a credit card to protect yourself against fraud. If owners pressure you into providing a deposit or refuse to accept credit cards, there is a high probability that this is a scam.
- If at all suspicious of fraud, ask to see their website, or any other literature they can provide or send to you. Ask them for contact details for guests who have previously stayed on their property insisting on telephone numbers. Be suspicious of emails that originate from free email services (yahoo, hotmail, gmail, etc)
- Research the property thoroughly on the internet to see if there is any history or mention of scams associated with the property.

It's a great place for walking, the host has loads of maps and information on walks. There are also loads of Cathar Castles to visit but some are about an hour away (the nearest about 10 minutes) but the roads are great to drive on compared to the UK so its not a problem. Only an hour from Carcassonne and Mirepoix (famous for its market on Mondays) both of which are 'must visit' places as is the Gorge du Galamous.
Great place and great host. I noticed the previous comment about Mrs 'K'. Well she works and is not really part of the B&B but who cares really, it had no detrimental affect on our stay and when we did catch a glimpse of her she seemed OK to us.
Will we stay again, you bet to do some more walking in late September. Would I recommend this to my friends, of course I would.
