Overview

Le Grand Saule nestles below the 11th century keep in Moncontour, Vienne. A house of character and history, it provides tranquil, elegant and spacious accommodation. The house is set in its own private grounds and offers secure parking. The large lounge / dining area looks on to the beautiful garden, provides satellite and french television and a DVD library. The continental breakfast offered can be taken in the dining area or on the patio overlooking the sunfilled garden. Relax on the patio amongst the roses and herbs, or in the rear of the garden which backs onto the River Dive. In the garden can be found an original, medieval ball from a catapult used during the seige of the tower.

The accommodation consists of family room with double bed and single bed (with room for a further bed and cot); and a double room with double bed (room for further single bed or cot). Both are ensuite, with satellite tv and tea and coffee making facilities.

Moncontour houses an 11th century donjon and a water sports lake including a ski lift, beach, mini golf and auberge. There are also numerous forest and riverside walks. The area is a paradise for fishermen, bird watchers, cyclists, horseriders. The town includes all the general amenities required including a doctors, dentist, bank, supermarket, boulangerie, bar/pizzeria. Euros and Sterling accepted.

Location & area

Moncontour is based on the edge of Deux Sevres and Vienne in the Poitou Charentes region. It is approximately 4 - 5 hours from the ports of Le Havre, Dieppe and Caen making it an excellent stop over for your journey to the South of France. It is also an excellent point for house hunting.
