Overview

La Cassoulere is an up-dated Gascony farmhouse that is situated in a small very French village close to the Pyrenees mountains and just 35 minutes drive from Lourdes. It has large rooms and thick walls and the renovation has kept the original character of the house. A 'new' wing was added in 1969 by the previous owners and this wing houses three of the four bedrooms. Each room is prettily appointed with large windows. The four poster room has french doors opening on to a balcony which surrounds the room on two sides. This balcony gives a brief view of the mountains.A small library and relaxing lounge joins the old house to the new.At the time of writing there are two showers and three toilets which are shared between the rooms and this is reflected in the current prices. By summer 2009 three of the four bedrooms will be ensiute.Our huge kitchen is the focal point of the house and is situated on the ground floor opening onto the patio. Most of our guests spend most of their time in the kitchen or in the garden even though we have a guest dining room upstairs.With Cauterets, Luchon, St Lary and many other ski resorts within driving distance it is the perfect location for skiers who want to visit several of the resorts.Our beautiful valley with its forests and rivers is just one of scores stretching the breadth of the mountains.Fishing, walking, horse riding, hang gliding, free fall parachuting and much more are all around us. So whatever your tastes you will find something for you in the area.We love our area and we hope you will love it too as have all our previous guests.

Location & area

La Cassoulere is situated in a beautiful valley close to the Route 929 between Lannemezan and Auch (birthplace of Dartagnan). Easy access from Toulouse or Pau or Tarbes airports. Our house lies in a beautiful valley which stretches from the mountains through Gascony to the Gers region of France.



The ski resorts of St Lary, Luchon and Piau Engaly are approximately 35-40 minutes drive whilst Cauterets, Galvarnie and Hossegor amongst others are a little further.



An easy two hour drive drops you right on the fantastic beach at Biarritz. The same distance south takes you to the breathtaking medieval town of Carcassonne.



Les is the Spanish version of 'tobacco alley' with an array of very cheap wines and spirits and of course tobacco of all kinds. Les also is a very pretty town with some excellent restaurants that are extremely well priced.



Close by as the crow flies is the Pic Du Midi with its incredible 4000 metre cable car ride, world famous observatory and, quite literally, breathtaking views. Visit the museum, have lunch marvel at the views from the top of a 12000 foot mountain - with no effort!



Whether you are looking for an adventure holiday, relaxing in beautiful countryside, an historical exploration, fishing some of the best carp lakes and trout rivers in Europe, watching the Tour De France go by or hiking the valleys and mountains, La Cassoulere is the perfect location.



For walkers of all abilities excursions can be arranged with a professional mountain guide. These guided and informative walks are extremel popular so please let us know at least four weeks before your arrival if you would like to take part.

Two of our bedrooms share a shower room and two are in the process of converting to en suite. Guests have use of the garden and barbecue as well as a small splash pool. Ample parking is provided in the grounds or just outside our gates. Mountain bikes are available for hire at 5 euros per day. A great way to explore the local valleys and forests.
