Marseillette is a Minervois village that runs alongside the Canal du Midi 16 kms from Carcassonne.Surrounded by vines on the edge of the village, it is a beautiful place to base yourself to visit the many attractions in and around the area.
We offer 2 holiday cottages, sleeping 4 in a double and twin bedroom. (+ Travel Cot). Fully equipped and with large outside patio areas with their own BBQ and garden furniture. There is parking in our large 2 acre garden which has a 10 metre x 5 metre heated pool with a tiled and decked surround offering extensive views towards the mountains in the distance.
The region is famous for the medieval city of Carcassonne which hosts many special events throughout the year including the famous fireworks on Bastille Day July 14th & music festival in July. There are attractions all year round.
This is an area steeped in Cathar history offering plenty of Chateaux to visit and beautiful villages. Vines are grown everywhere, which lends itself to seducing you to taste the varied and inexpensive local wines. Bottles start from around 2 euros.
Although we are situated on the edge of a village, it isn't far to the shops and supermarkets. Our village has a bar/cafe, restaurant, hairdressers, bread van & a small weekly market. Capendu, only 4 minutes away has a small supermarket open most days. Trebes, just 10 minutes away has several major shops, cafes & supermarkets. Carcassonne town itself has a varied choice of shopping.
Olive Tree Cottage has its own south facing patio for sunbathing and relaxing overlooking the garden towards the pool and the Alaric hills in the distance. Around the front of the house (which is alongside the canal) you can stroll along the towpath of the Canal du Midi and watch the boats navigate their way through the lock between the Mediteranean and the Atlantic. The cottages are in the grounds of very friendly British owners, who will respect your privacy.
Upstairs, the cottage offers a double & a twin bedroom. All towels and bedding are provided. There is a shower and washbasin (hairdryer provided).
Downstairs there is everything you need for a relaxing holiday away from home. Open plan area downstairs includes a sitting room area with sofa, armchairs, TV, DVD player, Radio/CD player. Dining table and chairs.
A kitchenette offering all facilities. A full sized 4 ring cooker with oven and grill and a large fridge/freezer. All crockery, cutlery and tea towels are provided as well as a microwave/ dishwasher/ electric toaster / kettle/ coffee maker (a cool-box is provided for excursions to help keep drinks cool).
There is also a WC and separate utility area providing a washing machine and sink with ample outside washing line for drying provided. Iron / ironing board.
Canal View Cottage has the advantage of fabulous views overlooking the Canal du Midi and across the vineyards to the "Montagne Noire" in the distance. You can sit on the patio area in the sunshine watching the boats navigate their way up and down the Canal du Midi and watch the French people go about their everyday life.

Each cottage has it's own patio with table and chairs for outside dining next to a spacious BBQ area. Sun loungers are provided.
The heated swimming pool (between May & October) offers 10m x 5 metres (approx. 33ft x 16ft) with Roman Steps for easy access and sitting on the steps with your feet in the water to keep cool. There is a 2 metre tiled & wooden surround with ample space for sunbathing. Sun loungers are provided. The pool is in a raised area of the garden offering fantastic views over towards the hills in the distance of the Minervois region. Both cottages share the pool which is set in approx 2 acres of garden. Private off road parking provided.
The Etang de Marseillette is a dried salt water lake and now grows vines, apples and rice in it's fertile soil. Why not cycle to Trebes for lunch in less than an hour and eat at the Moulin de Trebes alongside the triple lock and watch the boats sail by? Helmets and locks are available if requested.
Marseillette is perfectly located to explore the region. The Pyrenees are a short drive away with its varied terrain and places of interest. There are Spa towns, mountain passes, The Yellow Train and lots more. All details can be found in the cottages.
The Mediterranean Sea is only 45 minutes away with many great beaches and salt lakes. Flamingos live in some of the Salt lakes.
Virtually all the villages offer wine tasting(Degustation)in their Caves and Co-operatives. Just look out for the roadsigns.
Each gite has information packs to help you get around and see as much or as little as you want to do.

Location & area
The cottages are ideally situated to visit the many attractions. Whether you want to walk along the walls of the medieval city (La Cite) steeped in history or to dip your toes in the sea at the sun drenched beaches of the Mediterranean.
The region is surrounded by vineyards and stunning countryside. You would never be short of places to visit or walk.
Carcassonne. The medieval walled city dates back to the 6th Century. It has 52 towers and 2 miles of ramparts and is still inhabited to this day. Narrow streets offer a vast selection of shops and eateries. The city has been the setting for several films including Robin Hood Prince of Thieves.
The Montagne Noire to the north is surrounded by stunningly beautiful scenery with lovely mountain villages, beautiful walking paths or leisurely drives.
Visit the local markets: Mirepoix on Mondays, Caunes Minervois on Tuesday, Wednesday in Lezignan, Thursday in Montpellier, Limoux on Fridays, Saturday mornings sat in the square of the town having a coffee watching the local market in Carcassonne town or drive to Revel market and pick up your food for a picnic at the lake on the way back. On Sundays, there is a large market in Narbonne. Each day there are many markets in small villages and large towns to be able to see the authentic French way of life and buy local produce.
Beautiful local architecture includes several Cathar Churches nearby dating back over 800 years.

- It is important to NEVER wire funds or use/employ other fund transfer mechanisms such as western union: Always use a credit card to protect yourself against fraud. If owners pressure you into providing a deposit or refuse to accept credit cards, there is a high probability that this is a scam.
- If at all suspicious of fraud, ask to see their website, or any other literature they can provide or send to you. Ask them for contact details for guests who have previously stayed on their property insisting on telephone numbers.
