Overview

The annexe to the delightful villa Les Pins, Le Figuier may be rented on its own - the perfect taste of indoor and outdoor living within a few minutes of the village centre and the port.

With its own private pathway, gate and front door at the side of the main house, Le Figuier is a well proportioned home.

Le Figuier has one bedroom, a bright double room at the front of the apartment, with a sofa bed in the living room creating an extra sleeping area. The good sized salon sejour has windows opening out to the east-facing patio and south to the fig tree that lends its name to the ground-floor apartment. A sofa and comfy arm chair by the window, the salon also doubles as the main dining area - but you are spoilt for choice when deciding where to eat. Perhaps at the table seating four in the well-equipped kitchen, with its dishwasher, gas and electric hobs, oven and microwave, and its striking blue dresser.

Or maybe outside on the patio, where garden furniture, chairs tables, even recliners spread out in front of the huge stone barbecue - big enough for that Languedoc summer speciality the Brasucade:

Simply grill pans of fresh mussels over a fire of sarments (vine shoots) spinkle on herbes de provence from the market and add a healthy dash of Marseillan's own celebrated Picpoul de Pinet white wine: Serve with crisp fresh salad - mixed with a home made vinaigrette - and platters of fresh oysters and a bowl of two of the sharp lucques oysters of the legion to nibble with the village's essential aperitif - the Marseillanaise (equal parts Noilly Prat Dry and Noilly Rouge) to get the party going as you savour the aromas from the barbecue.

Marseillan is paradise on earth - a centuries old languedoc village, clustered round the 13th century church and market square, yet spilling out into a fishing port hailed as St Tropez before Bardot. Foodie heaven on the banks of a sleepy Mediterranean lagoon, in the heart of wine country.



Discover earthier delights at the village centre restaurants. Le Boulevard - just up the road - is famous for its seafood and great steaks, grilled over an open fire. Raise a glass at the Marine Bar and while away a Tuesday morning in the market square and dance a July night away at a ball in the streets outside the old church. Play petanque at the boulodrome - in summer locals take on visitors with a series of friendly evening matches.
