Overview

For a self catering holiday in France this is ideal. The modern chalet or mobile home is in Charente between La Rochelle and Royan close to Ile d'Olereon. The site is based around an old chateau with 150 acres of parkland. The original old buildings have been converted into public amenities including bar/restaurant, well-stocked mini market, games room, children's club etc If you don't want to cook there is a good restaurant and take-away and there is a pizza bakery open every evening until 10:30 in high season. There is large swimming pool complex with 3 pools including a children's area and “river glide”. In high season there is a bar serving snacks and soft drinks at the poolside. Activities on site include tennis, table tennis, horse riding, go-cart hire, bicycle hire, swimming pools, scuba diving tuition, kiddies' playground, volley ball court, football pitch, children's clubs. There are lovely beaches in easy reach, lots of local restaurants with seafood a speciality and plenty of towns and villages to visit nearby. Although the site has lots of activities and amenities for all ages there are quiet corners for those who want some peace and quiet. Our chalet is situated on the edge of the site next to fields and with a good distance between each chalet.

The chalet is about 100 yards from the main amenities and if you spend your time between the chalet and the central amenity area it is easy to forget that the rest of the site exists. The living area has an L-shaped settee which includes a pull-out bed and a dining table and chairs. There is a radio and CD player, bookshelf and coffee table. The kitchen area is equipped with a 4 burner hob and a combined microwave/oven/grill if you want to re-create your favourite dishes from the local restaurants. There is a sink unit, plenty of cupboard space and a large 'fridge/freezer to chill your beer and wine. If your idea of holiday cooking is less formal there is a "barbie" outside. The chalet has a bathroom with toilet and hand basin with mirror and light above and also a separate shower room with hand basin and power point for hair dryer.
There are 2 bedrooms, one with a large double and one with good sized twin beds.
Most of your time will probably be spent outside where there is a deck area which has a table and chairs and is ideal for al fresco eating. Also outside is a pergola, to provide some shade, and 2 sun loungers. There are 2 bikes for your exclusive use.It is in a quiet corner of a busy site providing the ideal combination of quiet relaxation with plenty of activities and entertainment when you want it.

The site is 1 mile from Marennes with its bars, restaurants, supermarkets and market hall and 15 minutes from the historic city of Rochfort. La Rochelle, Royan and Ile d'Oleron are all 30 to 40 mintues drive. The nearest beach is 1 mile away with miles of sandy beaches on Oleron and the Cote Sauvage just a few minutes drive. There are many restaurants, fishing villages and seaside towns close by. But if you prefer to stay on site and relax there is everything you need.
