Overview

The cottage is situated in a small hamlet within a farming community and just 2 kms from the nearest village with bar/restaurant, shop, church and tourist information. It is 11 kms from the market town of Callac with its supermarkets, cinema, tennis and basketball pitches, post office and other amenities. The old Roman capital of Brittany, Carhaix-Plouger is just 15 kms and it is possible to see many of the relics of those times as well as the medieval period in the centre of the town.

The stone with which our cottage is constructed and the slates on the roof were mined locally. The quarry is now closed but a film of the mine and its workings can be viewed in the Maison de Patrimoine in Locarn, just 2 kms from the cottage.

Situated within a small hamlet, once all farm workers cottages and benefiting from the peace and quiet of such a location, it would be easy to think oneself back in time. Our cottage has all the amenities of modern life whilst allowing the visitor to enjoy outdoor pursuits such as cycling or walking in the Landes de Locarn and Gorges du Corong (1 km distant) with it's wildlife, birds, menhirs and spectacular views or the Forest of Duault (5km) with it's many different species of tree, etc. Fishermen revel in the number of rivers and lakes available; horse riding, tennis, swimming, volley ball, go karting and many other activities are also catered for nearby. The north coast with seemingly endless beaches is just over half an hours drive and the southern coast of Brittany with it's rolling coast ideal for surfing is about an hour away.

With its large coastline, Brittany affords a large variety of beaches with an abundance of fish and seafood. The climate is ideal for vegetable growing and these, along with locally reared meat, enable shops and restaurants to offer fresh, local produce.

After a day out, one can relax with a good meal, a glass of local cider or wine, read and plan or visit one of the many restaurants, cinema or theatre just a short drive away. Whatever the decision, there will be little to disturb the enjoyment and peace.
