Overview

This charming cottage has been lovingly restored and retains its original features. It's a typical fisherman's cottage of the French Vendée coast, with whitewashed stone walls, 2 storeys and wood panelling inside. The cottage is ideally located between the famous Vendée Globe sailing ports and the Atlantic beaches of Les Sables d'Olonne in western France. It's situated on a very quiet, narrow little street in a historic part of the town. It's just one street up from the quays and the passenger ferries that shuttle people around the ports and beaches of this gorgeous town. It's also just a two-minute walk from the Chateau St Clair, built in the 15th century on the orders of King Louis XIV. It now houses the town's maritime museum.
Sailing fans will love this cottage: it's perfect for exhibitions and events celebrating the returne of the Vendée Globe race around the world. . The boats crossed the finishing line in Feb/March 2009. Les Sables d'Olonne will celebrate the adventure untill the end of the year.
The cottage is within easy walking distance of restaurants, cafés, beaches, ports, shops, markets and historical sites. If you're travelling with children, the cottage has bunk beds that will delight them and there are supervised play groups on the beach.

Location & area

Les Sables d'Olonne, on the west coast of France, is perhaps best known internationally for the Vendée Globe sailing race, which begins and ends here. For Parisians, it's still remembered as the nearest town to the French capital that was allowed to have a casino! There are still two casinos going strong, if you fancy your chance at the blackjack table or the slot machines.If you're not into sailing or gambling, there's a gorgeous stretch of sandy beach that's perfect for getting a suntan, enjoying some beach volleyball, surfing and swimming.

The coastline is lovely for long rambling walks or for cycling (you can borrow two bicycles at the cottage, or hire them locally if you need more).
