Overview

The cottage is ideally suited for families with young children and teenagers who will enjoy the big pool and the ball games available on site, and many other sporting activities such as tennis, golf, cycling and walking in the Luberon Park. The cottage was recently renovated and has a fully equiped kitchen and 3 bedrooms, one at the top of the tower, a former dovecote. The private garden is fenced and features a charcoal barbecue, garden table, chairs and lounging-chairs. The 2-acre property features an old mill and borders a stream in the Vallée d'Aigues, between Aix-en-Provence and Manosque, renowned for its small market towns, craft museums, Renaissance castles and gardens, music festivals, prize-winning vineyards and superb walks leading to medieval chapels. Daytrips to Gorges du Verdon, Gordes, Avignon, Pont du Gard and Camargue are easily done, as well as to beaches near Cassis and Marseille. All shops are found at nearby villages and small towns.

Location & area

Le Moulin de Marchand is situated at the edge of La Bastide des Jourdans (alt. 400 m., pop. 1100), a 13th century rural Provençal village in the Vallée d'Aigues, between Pertuis and Manosque, at the foot of the Luberon. It is easily accessible from the A7 and A51 motorways. Main towns are Pertuis (15 kms), Aix-en-Provence (40 kms) and Marseille in the south, Avignon in the west, while Manosque (20 kms) and Sisteron in the east are the gateways to the Southern Alps.

The property borders a small stream called the Eze. It includes a main house on three levels, a mill-house and a dovecote, both two centuries old, an old canal, a swimming pool and two fields, one of which is reserved for guests.

Shops and good restaurants are close by, either at La Bastide des Jourdans(2 kms up the road) or at Grambois, au Moulin du Pas (3 kms). Medical help (doctors, pharmacy) is available locally. Pertuis (15 kms) and Manosque (20 kms) both have supermarkets and shopping centres.

The tower, called "Le Pigeonnier" (dovecote), has been linked to another small round tower and a sheep pen to form a picturesque cottage with three areas on different levels linked by small passages and low doors (total floor area : about 55 m²).



Heating and water heating is by electricity. All rooms are furnished, and household linen, towels and bedding are provided. Beds are prepared. Cot and some accessories for babies are available upon request.



In the main part, you will find the kitchen and bathroom, and the two main bedrooms, one with a double bed and the other with 2 single beds.



The tower itself has three levels : the dining room is downstairs, with the lounge just above. There are books and family games to enjoy, plus a Pal/Secam colour TV with incorporated video recorder. The third bedroom is on the top level (mezzanine), with a single bed.



The small private garden is enclosed and has many bushes, flowerbeds and wall-climbing plants, and a lawn area. The stone barbecue area is shaded by lilac trees and furnished with a garden table and chairs. Two lounging-chairs are available.



The cottage is not easily accessible to handicapped people because of the different levels and steps inside the buildings. It is a no-smoking accommodation and pets are not allowed. Parking is outdoors, in front of the garden. The pool is shared with the owner and the guests in the other guesthouse.
