This is your property ?

Our recently renovated granite farmhouse and longiere currently offers 2 twin and two double bedrooms, all en-suite and all offering panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. We have been awarded 2 epis by Gites de France for our hospitality, standard of care and attention to details.
Although we are in the heart of the countryside, we are a mere hour and a half easy drive from the ferry ports of St Malo and Roscoff and Dinard and Brest airports. We are also ideally situated for touring: the Granite Rose coast and the embarkation point for Isle de Brehat are 45 minutes away, as too is Finistere with it's breathtaking coastline. The cities of Vannes and L'Orient in Morbihan are a relaxing hour and a half drive through beautiful countryside, passing through many charming villages and small towns en route. Brittany is steeped in history: the legends of the Celts, King Arthur and, more recently, the Resistance in the last world war can easily be explored; the Breton culture, music and festivals are fascinating to watch and participate in and a warm welcome awaits the tourist.Brittany has the largest coastline of France, thus fresh fish and seafood feature on many menus in restaurants. The climate is well suited for agriculture and fresh vegetables, eggs, milk and meat raised and grown in Brittany are exported to other parts of France and Europe and Breton restaurants also benefit from this.

Location & area

The tiny hamlet of Kerlouet is set amongst the green fields, rivers, lakes and forests of rural Brittany with easy access to the north and south coasts. Pretty stone cottages and farmhouses nestle amongst the trees while the Breton people quietly go about their daily lives. The hussle and bussle of the city seems far removed from this calm, and peaceful place. Yet an easy 20 minute drive on empty roads brings the traveller to the mediaeval city of Guingamp and its bars, restaurants and shops. The amazing, naturally beautiful Granite Rose coast is a further 20 minutes drive and the family friendly beaches of Tregastel and Plouha are close by. The lively ports of Perros Guirec and Binic are also nearby.
Travelling through country lanes it is not unusual to come across Menhirs (standing stones) and Dolmens. These relics from the stone age are commonplace in Brittany - two fine examples are less than 10 minutes drive from Ty Gwennili. Legend and folklore give explanations which satisfy some and add to the curiosity of others. Nevertheless these amazing constructions have stood the test of time and continue to cause wonder to the 21st century traveller.

The Breton people are proud of their Celtic heritage. There are numerous festivals throughout the year where traditional music played on the pipes clarinettes and flutes are enjoyed, sometimes with music from other Celtic areas. The festivals include traditionally costumed dancers giving displays of regional dance and always opportunities to join in. Breton dancing is enjoyed by young and old alike. Local festivals include, "Festival des Camellias' (March, Guingamp), International Male Choral Festival, (May, Pleyben )'Festival Plinn du Danuo't (August, Bourbriac), 'Festival de la Danse Bretonne' (August, Guingamp) and many others. These colourful and lively spectacles are rooted in time and play an important part in the lives of local people something they enjoy sharing as part of the promotion of their culture. Kerlou't is in the heart of this.
