Overview

Les Grands Chenes is situated on the edge of a small farming hamlet about 5 kms from Guemene Penfao. We are surrounded by fields with just one boundary formed by the back of neighbouring stone barns. The house has been converted in the last 4 years and many of the original features are to be seen, large oak beams and stone walls. The sitting room is a comfortable room converted from the original stables, it now seats 7 persons in comfort in front of the woodburner for those cooler nights. TV, CD player etc available.
The kitchen diner is a large airy room with oak refrectory table, seats 8 easily, fully fitted kitchen. Gas hob, electric ovens, microwave, fridge/freezer, washing machine, dishwasher etc. Door to the side opens onto the garden and the morning sun pours in the glazed doors.
Ground floor bedroom has king size bed, small woodburner and is roomy. Shower room adjacent to this room. Upstairs 2 double bedrooms both with en-suite shower rooms. One double and one with twin beds. Velux windows have blinds as do the windows. Shower rooms have corner showers, vanity unit with large mirror and toilet.
Garden is large with the pool at the rear of the property. Heated by solar system the pool is 1.2 - 1.4 metres deep with roman steps. Plenty of sitting area.

Location & area

Approx 5 kms from Guemene Penfao and about 3.5 from Besle sur Vilaine, a small village on the river, which provides plenty of walks and bike rides. The area offers canoe rides, horse riding and walking.
Bikes available for client use. About an hour from coast a La Baule and St Nazaire. Nantes is famed for old town and the Ile aux Machines, a mechanical, walking gigantic elephant. a large motor museum is 20 minutes away at Loheac. Pretty stone and slate villages, notably La Gacilly, an artistic heritage and Rochefort en Terre where the main street is closed to traffic. Plenty of restaurants in area providing good food. Le Roche Bernard is a spectacular town on a rocky promintory on the Vilaine nearer the coast, a boating haven. A little further downstream the Barrage is a place of interest especially when the lock is in use! St Nazaire of U boat pen fame, these massive concrete wartime bunkers are still standing and on the roof is a picture story of the recent turbulent history of the town. Guerande stands in the middle of the salt marshes and is a complete walled town. La Croisic a picturesque fishing town on the coast.
