Overview

Chalet La Foret is in the heart of the Chamonix valley, five to ten minutes walk from the Flegere lift, for access to the ski and snowboard areas of Brevent and Flegere. There are plenty of restaurants and a couple of bars nearby, and Chamonix town centre is just five minutes drive or a pleasant twenty minute walk.

Location & area

Chalet La Foret is in the pretty mountain village of Les Praz de Chamonix - one of Chamonix's most sought-after areas due to its sunny aspect and the Flegere lift. A kilometer further into the mountains than Chamonix town centre, it has a charming village shop where you can get new baked bread, local cheeses, fresh fruit and vegetables and other necessities.



There is a friendly, English speaking ski and snowboard shop and a good choice of restaurants. Les Praz de Chamonix has its own train station and there are plenty of shuttle buses

Amenities & services

The chalet, which faces south, was built in 1950 and has been completely renovated. Built of granite on the ground floor and larch wood on the top, with a traditional cedar-tiled roof, it's a wonderfully welcoming house. Outside The garden is huge (about two-thirds of an acre) and melts into the forest surrounding the chalet. Just through the woods, you can glimpse the cross-country ski trails which run beside the river.The views are spectacular in all directions -you can see Flegere, Brevent, Mont Blanc, the Aiguille du Midi, the Dru and many more. There is plenty of off-street private parking with room for up to four cars. The shed provides ideal storage for skis, boards and boots. Living room The spacious and beautiful living room has a TV with DVD player, stereo with iPod dock, squashy and very comfortable sofas and a PS2 in the mezzanine den. There are games, an extensive DVD collection and a selection of books including plenty about the mountains. Bring a laptop to access our wireless broadband - useful for checking weather forecasts and lifts. The huge covered balcony is a lovely place to listen to the river and watch the snow. Kitchen and dining The traditional tiled kitchen is very well equipped with new modern appliances - there's a four ring halogen hob and fan oven, microwave, dishwasher and washer-dryer. There's plenty of crockery and cutlery, cast iron pans and good kitchen knives. There's a raclette and fondue set for cheesy nights in. The big farmhouse table seats ten easily and there is an open fire. Sleeping Bedroom 1 on the first floor has twin beds (can be made into a double),fitted wardrobe, a door onto the balcony and spectacular views of the Aigulle du Midi and the Dru. Bedroom 2, also on the first floor has twin beds,fitted wardrobe, and a view of Flegere and Brevent Bedroom 3, on the ground floor, has twin beds,fitted wardrobe and a view of the woods. Bedroom 4, also on the ground floor, has a double bed,fitted wardrobe and view onto the garden and the Dru Bedroom 5 is in the mazot... The Mazot A mazot is a traditional small chalet next to a larger one. This one is a cosy ensuite bedroom for two - it's even got its own kettle and fridge so you can make a brew in the morning. It has its own shower, basin and WC and you can look out at the Aiguille du Midi from your bed. Bathrooms Bathroom 1 on the first floor has double sinks, bath and shower.There is a separate WC next to it Bathroom 2 on the ground floor is a fantastic new wet room with sink, shower and WC
