Overview

Le Marronnier, our 16th-century stone farmhouse, faces south to the Célé valley in an area known as "Place du Sol" - "place of the earth". This spacious house sleeps six people -with privacy assured. The Visitors' Book confirms the enjoyment of previous guests who have stayed at Le Marronnier over the years.

Situated in the quiet village of Espédaillac, Le Marronnier is in a quiet, rural location opposite a vineyard. Only the occasional tractor and car use the lane outside the house. For the necessities in life, however, shops and banks are only a 20-minute drive away. In Min and Bob's absence, English friends greet guests and look after the house.

Le Marronnier is the perfect place for relaxing, drinking in the atmosphere of rural France and watching village life unfold to the accompaniment of birdsong. A short walk away is the "Auberge Beauville" which serves delicious meals, including all the local delicacies. The village church clock even tells you when it's time for apéritifs

The thing that draws you to Le Marronnier is the chestnut tree in front of the farmhouse - it bends away from the building, so sheltering it from the weather. The view over the surrounding countryside from the front of the house is simply stunning. The pool and terrace are just a few steps away from the front door through a little gate in a dry-stone wall in the grounds

There are plenty of grassy areas in the grounds for games of boules, badminton and football - or just sit by the pool and gaze at the wonderful view. A lazy evening barbecue with a glass or two of local wine is a perfect way to end the day - and as the sun sets, the pool takes on a magical quality with romantic garden lights illuminating the water

Espédaillac is a busy little village with entertainments and events planned throughout the summer. Bastille Day, in July, is celebrated with an open air barbecue supper on the village green - followed by dancing. In August, there is a "sardinade" - another open air meal, this time consisting of sardines! A three-day fête, also in August, includes live music, dancing and a massive "brocante" (boot sale). Locally, there are many marked walks on green roads and paths. The area is also very good for cycling, but please bring your own bikes. Other activities available locally include...

canoeing on the Dordogne or Cele rivers

tennis at Espédaillac

climbing

flying

horse riding

bird watching

eating and drinking...

It's rare, but some helpful hints to watch out for with regards to fraud:

  • It is important to NEVER wire funds or use/employ other fund transfer mechanisms such as western union: Always use a credit card to protect yourself against fraud. If owners pressure you into providing a deposit or refuse to accept credit cards, there is a high probability that this is a scam.
  • If at all suspicious of fraud, ask to see their website, or any other literature they can provide or send to you. Ask them for contact details for guests who have previously stayed on their property insisting on telephone numbers. Be suspicious of emails that originate from free email services (yahoo, hotmail, gmail, etc)
  • Research the property thoroughly on the internet to see if there is any history or mention of scams associated with the property.
