Overview

Built on the foundations of an old barn, La Chene is one of 2 gites on site at La Charriere, and is designed to offer comfortable and spacious accommodation for up to 10 guests. With a spacious kitchen and dining area, and lovely lounge there is more than enough room for all your friends, or the whole family! The self-caterting gite is in the rural Deux-Sevres department in the Poitou-Charentes region.

Guests at La Chene enjoy the privacy of a patio area which gets all the afternoon sun and great sunsets viewed across the back field. There is a bbq for your use and parking space on site. All guests have shared use of all the onsite facilities including swimming pool (May - September), bicycles, badminton/baslet ball court, table tennis and pool.

The English owners live in another property on the site and on hand to offer advice on where to go, what to see, where to eat and which wines to try! Whether you are looking for a fun filled family holiday, a quiet romantic retreat or a fantastic France holiday with friends La Chene gite offers you great accommodation in a delightful French setting.

Location & area

Ideal for a scenic cycling holiday, the local area is quiet contryside dotted with villages and towns.



Argenton-Chateau is the nearest town (5 mins drive) and has all basic neccessities (small selection of shops) along with a large open air swimming pool and a lake where you can go out on a pedalo. The meandering streets of the town make for a very pleasant afternoon stroll and at dusk there are often otters to be seen around the 'Lac'.



Bressuire is a 15 minute drive and offers a more than adequate selection of supermarkets, restaurants, a town centre market every Tuesday and some wonderful patisseries! There is an old chateau here too, and a bizarre but fantastic antiques and oddities store.



Local vineyards offer wine tasting all year round - we are happy to recommend the best places for a 'degustation'. Try one or two different wines and buy bottles direct from the producer.



Ferries to Caen, Le Havre or Cherbourg, then drive 4/5 hours. Detailed directions for all routes will be sent out with the booking confirmation.



Short hop ferry - very cheap and a short crossing. The drive is longer but with the new autoroutes it is simple and quite quick. Detailed directions for all routes will be sent out with the booking confirmation.

La Charriere has a couple of barns onsite and one of these is equipped as a games area. You'll find table tennis, pool and darts in here. The big barn next door hs a concrete floor lined out for badminton, but can also be set up for volleyball, indoor tennis, 3-a-side basketball or even football.
