Overview

Rooms- We offer two double bedrooms and one twin-bedded room, each with luxurious en-suite shower rooms and each providing coffee/tea making facilities and hairdryers. One bedroom also provides an additional single bed for a third person or child. Garden area to sit, relax and enjoy the views.
Continental breakfast is provided every day and packed lunches are available as are evening meals as requested.
Things to do- The area around Beaulieu is excellent for many different types of holiday breaks including walking, cycling, painting and sight seeing. The country side has an abundant array of fauna and flora including birds of prey, deer; wild bore and red squirrels. The sunflowers cover the countryside in July; the farmers harvesting their crops amid the hot summer sun; the vines, now green, and full with grapes ready to be harvested in Autumn.The beaches at Arcachon and Royan are two hours away and La Rochelle is 2.1/2 hours. Much closer are the man made beaches of the Lacs De Haut Charente (20 minutes). Angouleme has a good variety of shops, restaurants and cafes. It is known as the capital of ‘Bande Dessinee’ – comic strips – which adorn some buildings and are a spectacular to be seen. In September the ‘Circuit des Ramparts’ takes place – vintage racing cars zooming on the streets. Confolens is a picturesque town famous for its International folklore festival in August.
History- The Charente is steeped in history both from long ago and from the 2nd World War where the Cockleshell Heros navigated the River Gironde from Bordeaux to Ruffec (1/2 hour away). There is the Memorial of Resistance at Chasseneiul, Oradour-sur-Glane (10 June 1944 tragedy of a whole village – very moving).

Beaulieu-sur-Sonnette is well located for transport links – Route National 10 which links motorways to ports from Dunkerque, Calais, Boulogne, Dieppe, Le Havre, Caen, Cherbourg and St Malo on the North West Coast down to Bordeaux on the South West Coast. Our proximity to these road links also makes Chez Plumatienne an ideal stopping off place for journeys to and from the South of France and the Iberian Peninsula (Spain and Portugal).



Limoges, Poitiers, Bordeaux and La Rochelle airports are easily accessible and are within 1 to 2 hours travel of Beaulieu.



Angouleme, the departmental capital of the Poitou Charente, is 30 minutes away and there are plans to fly to the UK from its airport.



Rail links are from Paris by TGV and stop at Ruffec (30 minutes drive) and Angouleme.

Important Notice : Avoiding Fraud

It's rare, but some helpful hints to watch out for with regards to fraud:

  • It is important to NEVER wire funds or use/employ other fund transfer mechanisms such as western union: Always use a credit card to protect yourself against fraud. If owners pressure you into providing a deposit or refuse to accept credit cards, there is a high probability that this is a scam.
