Veliko Tarnovo is very well positioned – it is situated in the middle of the country, 240 km from Varna, 230 km from Sofia and 240 km from Burgas, and it has excellent transport links.

It is set on three hills with the river Yantra winding between them. The Tsarevets fortress, situated on one of those hills, is the key tourist attraction in town. It is the former residence of the Bulgarian rulers from the Second Bulgarian Kingdom from the time when the town was the capital of Bulgaria. The climate in Veliko Tarnovo is typical for the area – moderate continental, the summer can be hot and dry but not all the time, usually it’s about 30C.
