Location & area
Within five minutes walk of the cottage are VT's best restaurants and bars as well as the craftsmen's and artists' studios of the Samovodska Charshiya. The Tsarevets medieval fortress is ten minutes walk away, while serious walkers need only to go to the top of the street where they will find the start of a breathtaking eco-trail leading to a small monastery tucked away in the hills (3-4 hours walk; less than 2 hours back if you choose to come via the road).
If you are hiring a car, Bulgaria's historic heartland offers something to suit almost every taste. Famous and culturally vibrant old towns sit proudly amidst an exquisite, dramatic and ever-changing landscape that is peppered with a myriad of small villages and hamlets where deep-rooted rural traditions and lifestyles live on. Historic villages with architectural reserve status are within easy reach (Arbanasi - 10 minutes; Bozhentsi - 50 minutes). Several monasteries which have played a key roll in preserving Bulgarian culture over the centuries are also close by (these include Kapinovo and Dryanovo monasteries, both less than half an hour away). Meanwhile the towns of Tryavna, Gabrovo (including the fascinating ethnographic complex of Etara), Lovech, Troyan (with its magnificent monastery) and Elena are all easily accessible and well worth visiting.

Important Notice : Avoiding Fraud
It's rare, but some helpful hints to watch out for with regards to fraud:
- It is important to NEVER wire funds or use/employ other fund transfer mechanisms such as western union: Always use a credit card to protect yourself against fraud. If owners pressure you into providing a deposit or refuse to accept credit cards, there is a high probability that this is a scam.
- If at all suspicious of fraud, ask to see their website, or any other literature they can provide or send to you. Ask them for contact details for guests who have previously stayed on their property insisting on telephone numbers. Be suspicious of emails that originate from free email services (yahoo, hotmail, gmail, etc)
- Research the property thoroughly on the internet to see if there is any history or mention of scams associated with the property.
