Overview

Brockenhurst is a well maintained colonial bungalow with its high roofs, spacious rooms, hard wood floors and fire places. Centrally located in Nuwara Eliya town, adjoining St Andrews Hotel and shadowed by Pidurutalagala mountain range it is few minutes away from Town centre, Golf Club and Victoria Park. Brockenhurst dates back to the early 1900s, and was originally owned by Philip Fawk, a British surveyor. Despite almost century old existence it still retains its original charm and character. The bungalow is set amidst a one acre of garden with an extensive two tiered front lawn edged with beautiful flower beds and large pine trees. The bungalow takes in only one booking at a time ensuring total privacy for the guests.
Brockenhurst has four comfortable rooms: two doubles, one triple and the master bedroom that can accommodate up to five. Master bedroom, a triple and a double room are located upstairs. The entire up stair floor is made out hardwood. Master bedroom and the double room down stairs have ensuite bathrooms while the other two rooms are required to use two other bathrooms which are not attached to those two rooms. All bathrooms are equipped with hot water shower and wash basin and w/c while two bathrooms have bath tubs as well. Master bedroom has a fire place and adds to the ambiance though no longer lit owing to safety reasons. The rooms are tastefully furnished with comfortable beds and dressers. House keeping facilities are provided.
Cozily furnished living room, where the fire place is lit each evening with a roaring fire, is ideal for evening cocktails. The TV with satellite connection is housed in the Varenda, which has a unique polished rubble wall. Meals are served at the dining room and both western dishes and Sri Lankan rice and curry are served. Discuss your choice of menu with the in house cook, Godwin who will prepare tasty meals using groceries provided by you or purchased from daily local market. The caretaker Karu will be pleased to accompany you on a visit to the local market which is filled with fresh up-country fruits and vegetables.

Excursions: Flanked by Pidurutalagala Mountain range in north and single tree mountain in south, the view from Brockenhurst is beautiful. Take a walk along the leafy byroads of Nuwara Eliya lined with tall pine trees and heritage mansions. For the more active there is jogging around the Race Course, and, of course, golf at the century-old Nuwara Eliya Golf Club with its tight fairways and testing greens. For nature lovers, visit Victoria Park with its landscaped gardens and Himalayan migratory birds such as the Kashmir Flycatcher, Pied Thrush Indian Pitta and the Indian Blue Robin. Horton's Plains, an undulating 2000m high plateau 28km south of Nuwara Eliya, is also an adventurous day's excursion. The grassy plains, which are interspersed with small patches of forest, are home to leopards, sambur, deer, monkeys and a rich array of birds, including some endemic species. A guided tour around a Tea estate and Factory is an enlightening experience.
