Overview

Escape to New Zealand's only 5 star rated, specialist fly fishing lodge

Immerse yourself in the luxurious, warm and inviting ambiance that is our lodge.
Forget about the outside world; come and soak up the stylish, cool, understated environment of Owen River Lodge.

Marvel at our stunning location - right on the Owen River in the South Island of New Zealand.

Enjoy the stunning food, wonderful surrounds, superb service and outstanding fly fishing that we offer.

Come and sample our slice of heaven.

The lodge is situated on 16 acres of gardens and farmland, with almost 1 kilometer of absolute river frontage to the Owen River.

One of the highlights of your stay at Owen River Lodge will be the meals. New Zealand's unique cuisine has grown from a fusion of highly distinct cultures - Mâori, Polynesian, Asian and every kind of European. We call the cuisine that emerges from this fusion - Pacifica cuisine.

The food at Owen River Lodge could best be described as stunning. We use the best of fresh, locally sourced produce and wines. Naturally the tariff includes all meals and non alcoholic beverages.

To ensure your absolute privacy, guests are accommodated in one of our guest cottage suites which are located in the gardens, a short stroll from the main lodge. All the guest suites have stunning views of the river, valley and mountains.

Each cottage is luxuriously appointed with reverse cycle air conditioning; king sized beds, original fine art works and feature 100 year old recycled oregon beams and woodwork.

For the fly fishing enthusiast - the Lodge is centrally located, with easy access to the Nelson/ Marlborough and West Coast fisheries.

Thus you can enjoy fly fishing on numerous blue-ribbon streams and rivers, with over 30 waters accessible by road (most within 1 hour's drive), and countless others by helicopter.

The famous American author/angler Zane Grey described New Zealand as an “Angler's Eldorado”.

He was right on the mark – especially when you look at the trout fishery. New Zealand has developed a reputation for having the best sighted river fishing for trout in the world.

You may have heard New Zealand's rivers described as being “Gin Clear” – well its true! Imagine stalking a 10lb brown trout, in water so clear, that water which looks 1 foot deep is actually up to your waist!

Owen River Lodge is located near Murchison in the Nelson Lakes area of the South Island (the top of the South Island).
