I highly recommend this apartment for anyone seeking peace, quiet and natural light in an area great for exploring by foot. Close enough to walk to the centre of town, frequent buses and only a y1000-1500 yen cab fare. As a single female I felt safe and comfortable and the owners could not be more helpful - above and beyond the call of duty. Everything has instructions in English and easy to use. Small supermarket very close by and larger, better ranged stores about 10 minutes walk. A great place to relax or work if you need to - wifi works well and there is a desk that look out to the view. Beds are firm but comfortable. There is no oven, as with most japanese apartments but it wasn't a problem.
I loved this place so much I am reluctant to share how wonderful it was for fear it won't be available when I return to Kyoto! The view of the temple and mountains outside the window was priceless. It was my home away from home for 2 months and I only wish it had been available for the remaining 2 months of my stay.
