Kumarakam is a cluster of small islands on the Vembanad Lake and this small water world is a part of Kuttanad region. The bird sanctuary here which is spread across 4 acres is a favourite haunt of migratory birds and an ornithologist's paradise. The best way to watch the birds of the Kumarakam sanctuary is a boat trip around the islands. Kumarakom an unbelievably beautiful paradise of mangrove forests, emerald green paddy fields and coconut groves, interpreted with enchanting water ways and canals adorned with white lilies- a picturesque world of back waters, thatched houseboats, cormorants, Chinese fishing nets and swaying palms, is an ideal get away.
