Exterior Living Room Garden Entryway

Overview

This recently redone traditional Kyoto townhouse has a uniquely elegant atmosphere. It is outfitted with modern furniture and decorated with pan-Asian art. The mushiko-style windows on the second floor throw patterned light into a living room with two large sofas. The main garden behind the house is slightly larger than most tsuboniwa bottle gardens, and can be entered from the large tatami room on the first floor. Nishirokkaku-cho has been fully remodeled to accommodate six guests.

A large entrance welcomes guests. On the first floor is a large room with a sitting area at one end and a tastefully decorated alcove at the other end, which faces the garden. The kitchen is outfitted with a refrigerator, small electric stove, toaster oven, hot water pot, and sink. At the rear of the house, guests can relax in the cedar wood ofuro bath while looking out over a small stone garden that can be illuminated at night. The bath includes a shower. Guests will find a western-style toilet on this floor as well.

Stairs hidden in a closet behind the sitting area lead to the second floor, which has three separate spaces. The front part of the house is the aforementioned wooden-floored living room with characteristic mushiko windows and couches, perfect for relaxing with a book and coffee, which is provided in the kitchen below. The rest of the second floor has tatami floors, and guests will find an alcove display of antique Asian art. Here high-quality futon bedding can be spread for two guests. Four more guests can sleep on the first floor.

Nishirokkaku-cho is centrally located between Shi-jo and Oike Avenues, west of Karasuma Avenue.

Nishirokkaku-cho has been remodeled and is maintained by Iori Co., many of whose staff speak English fluently. Iori staff will help you check in and out and will clean the house for you during your absence. Iori also offers concierge services. Feel free to ask us about recommendations and arrangements for sightseeing, dining, shopping, and entertainment.

Important Notice : Avoiding Fraud

It's rare, but some helpful hints to watch out for with regards to fraud:

  • It is important to NEVER wire funds or use/employ other fund transfer mechanisms such as western union: Always use a credit card to protect yourself against fraud. If owners pressure you into providing a deposit or refuse to accept credit cards, there is a high probability that this is a scam.
  • If at all suspicious of fraud, ask to see their website, or any other literature they can provide or send to you. Ask them for contact details for guests who have previously stayed on their property insisting on telephone numbers. Be suspicious of emails that originate from free email services (yahoo, hotmail, gmail, etc)
  • Research the property thoroughly on the internet to see if there is any history or mention of scams associated with the property.
